New York Mets Minor League Report: Shane Sdao Debuts For St. Lucie

It took until the final weekend of the Class A season, but Shane Sdao made his professional debut after being drafted by the New York Mets in the fourth round this summer.   The left-hander out of Texas A&M University pitched the second inning of St. Lucie's 10-6 home victory over Jupiter on Friday. He struck out three, but only after allowing a double and a home run to his first two batters.

Fifth-round selection Peyton Prescott made his pro debut ahead of Sdao. The right-hander started and worked a scoreless top of the first, with two strikeouts. Seventh-round selection Aidan Keenan pitched a scoreless third and fourth, striking out three as he worked around three hits. 

Another 2026 draftee, 11th-round outfielder Kuhio Aloy, had the key hit. He launched a grand slam in the bottom of the first to give St. Lucie a 4-0 lead. That was the first of four Mets home runs in the game. Yovanny Rodriguez went deep twice and Branny De Oleo homered once.

St. Lucie built a 10-2 lead through six innings.

Syracuse split a doubleheader with Rochester. It lost Game 1 5-0 and won Game 2 7-4 in nine innings on Hayden Senger’s walk-off three-run homer.

Binghamton got a two-run double from Mitch Voit in the eighth inning to edge New Hampshire 2-0. Four Rumble Ponies pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout.

Brooklyn melted down in the eighth inning and lost 9-5 to Frederick. The Keys scored seven runs in the frame to erase a 5-1 Cyclones lead.

Syracuse Goes Down Quietly In Opener

The Mets were held to three hits in Game 1 and could not respond after Rochester broke through late. Émilien Pitre singled in the first, Senger singled in the third, and MJ Melendez hit a ground-rule double in the seventh. Syracuse never had more than one runner on base in an inning.

Jack Wenninger started and worked four-plus innings. He left after allowing a single and a double to the first two batters in the fifth in a 0-0 game. Dan Hammer came in and allowed those inherited runners to score. A groundout brought in the first run, and a fielder’s choice brought home the second.

Rochester put the game away in the sixth against Hammer. The Red Wings got the first two batters on with a walk and a single, and after an infield popout, a three-run homer made it 5-0.

Senger Walk-Off Caps Wild Finish, Salvages Split

The final seven runs of this game scored in extra innings. Each team scored twice in the eighth before Senger produced the final three in the ninth with an opposite-field drive to right-center field, scoring Eric Wagaman and Jose Ramos ahead of him.

Senger entered the game in the top of the ninth after Kevin Parada was lifted for pinch hitter Pitre in the bottom of the eighth.

Rochester went ahead 4-2 in the top of the eighth on a two-run home run. Syracuse responded in the bottom half with a two-run double by Vidal Bruján to score Ramos and Zack Short.

Jack Weisenburger started and worked two hitless innings, although he did issue three walks. Zach Franklin, Matt Turner, Ben Simon, Dylan Ross and Brian Metoyer followed in a bullpen game. Metoyer earned the win after working a hitless ninth.

Voit's Hit Backs Binghamton Staff

The offense perked up just enough after being kept quiet for the first seven innings. JT Benson was hit by a pitch to open the inning and then stole second. Jamari Baylor followed with  walk to put two on with none out. Eddinson Paulino moved both runners up with a sacrifice bunt, and Voit brought them in with his double to left.

Voit’s hit, one of only two collected by Binghamton, rewarded the work of the Rumble Ponies' staff. 

Luke Gabrysh worked the first five innings, allowing two hits, walking none and striking out five. Bryce Jenkins followed with two innings of one-hit ball with three strikeouts. Carlos Guzman worked around a hit batter in the eighth. He was credited with the win. Garrett Stratton allowed a leadoff double in the ninth before retiring the next three hitters, striking out two, for his seventh save.

Spikerman's Big Game Goes For Naught As Brooklyn Collapses

John Spikerman was involved in four of the Cyclones' runs as they built their 5-1 lead. He put Brooklyn on the board in the second with a solo home run. In the fourth, he singled home Yonatan Henriquez and later came around to score on a wild pitch. In the sixth, he drew a walk, stole a base -- one of his three thefts on the night --  and scored on Alejandro Urias' two-run home run.

Starter Jose Chirinos struck out seven over 4 2/3 innings. He allowed four hits, one run, and one walk. The only run against him came on a solo home run. Juan Arnaud followed with 1 1/3 innings without a hit and struck out two.

Hunter Hodges added a scoreless seventh... and then things fell apart in the eighth.

Joe Scarborough came on with two outs in the frame after Hodges hit a batter and issued a walk. Scarborough threw a wild pitch and gave up a two-run double to damage Hodges' pitching line. That was followed by a single, a stolen base, a two-run double to tie the game, a walk, and a three-run homer, 

Frederick tacked on a run in the top of the ninth.

Sammy Stafura reached base twice, with a hit and a walk, before leaving the game for pinch hitter Antonio Jimenez in the fourth inning.

Fast Start Powers St. Lucie

The Mets set the tone right at the start. Boston Baro led off the first with a single, and De Oleo and Rodriguez walked to load the bases with no outs. Aloy then hit a drive to left for the salami and a 4-0 lead.

Rodriguez belted solo homers in the third and fifth. St. Lucie scored in the fourth when Jeremy Rodriguez walked, advanced to second on a balk, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on Yunior Amparo's single.

The Mets put up their final three runs in the sixth. Jeremy Rodriguez walked, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on Baro's single. De Oleo followed with a two-run home run for a 10-2 lead.

Prescott and Sdao both picked up their first pro strikeout. Sdao threw a nasty breaking pitch for his.
