Pretty GD sure I mentioned Jerry Grote's TWO WS appearances here but I don't see it

It's the post before the post above this one.
Players are gonna get left out, doesn't mean we didn't love Grote to the max.

The opponents roster made me realize that Roger F. Clemens is the only person to face the Mets in two different World Series, unless I'm overlooking someone else.

Piazza > Carter > Grote is pretty tough to argue against. I suppose one could
bring up years of service or something for starters but...

Ah, just thinking maybe we could have three catches and leave off an infielder. But you'd have to leave off an infielder from one of those years

Kase, I didn't moan. I've been laughing at that since you posted it, but didn't have a chance to give you kudos.
That one deserves a standing O. (well, maybe an OOOOOOOOH )

I was thinking the third catcher might be J.C. Martin. Only one plate appearance, and it goes into the books as an 0-1, but what a monumental tipping point of a plate appearance.

O. M. G.
Yes much better than Grote. What was I thinking

Grote was terrific, but he's not nearly at the level of Gary Carter and Mike Piazza.

Yeah, but Piazza didn't do anything.

Not sure that I'd consider 6-for-22 incl. 2 doubles & 2 HRs with 3 runs scored and 4 batted in over 5 games to be "not anything"

Ashie's long had a block about Piazza and the World Series.

C'mon, Ashie! Piazza was the chips!

I am one of those people who lost most of their respect for Mike when he let Clemens off the hook.

The one game suspension of Mike might have boosted the Mets morale.

All in all Piazza couldn't wear Grote's jock.

And how do you feel about this F.A.F.I.F.?

And you get all the facts wrong and disappear when they are brought to light. The umpires, Frank Robinson, and Bud Selig let Clemens off the hook.

I know a player cannot negotiate the exact punishment you would hope for, nor the outcome.

Couldn't be more untrue. This is just romanticizing the past.

Edgy take it from those of us who are old enough to remember Grote

It's carry, not wear. Some clothing/equipment is not meant to be shared.

Grote couldn't carry Mike's ten Silver Slugger Awards.

Well never mind. I'm wrong of course

Nah, I'm just busting Ashie's jock-sharing pelotas.
Grote deserves his own thread.

I feel jock sizes weren't in listed in contemporary media guides and I can't find them on Baseball Reference.

Old enough to see Grote in 1969 and 1973? You are lucky if it is true.

Ha! Jeter!

Well, Weaver always said the keys to winning were pitching, defense, and three run homers.
Snicker.

A day without a slam at Jeter is like a day without sunshine.
