Pretty grandiose for a single-A affiliate-- high-A or not-- to go with the whole-state naming convention, no?

Recently promoted from Columbia to St. Lucie is Dominican righthander Adonis Uceta. Pitching on May 7 for Columbia, Adonis walked three and allowed four earned runs in an inning and 2/3. Since then, bupkis. All summer long, Adonis has set them up and knocked them down, allowing zero earned runs in 24 consecutive appearances, the last three of which have been with St. Lucie.

And those weren't bogus one-batter appearances either. The period in question covers 32 innings, during which he's walked nine and struck out 38.

In 43 innings total this season, he's allowed a .155 batting average, no homers, and put up a 1.18 ERA. Adonis Uceta. Learn that name.

John Mora got caught stealing today in St. Lucie's extra-inning win. John gets the Lenny Randle Award for continuing to run despite a counter-productive efficiency, having now successfully stolen 15 times, against being caught 13 times, good for a 53.6% success rate.

A perfect ninth with two strikeous for the save tonight and Uceta is up to 33 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings. It's his first save in the FSL after he had earn the closer spot in first in Columbia and the again with Lucie.

Full count in his second plate appearance and ... takes a called strike three.

He's the first player ever to appear in the Florida State League after being being inducted in the Florida State League Hall of Fame. He went .270 / .369 / .459 // .828 with a league leading 39 doubles back in 2003, before climbing from AA to AAA to the bigs all in one season in 2004.

Charlotte shortstop Lucius Fox hits a sinking liner to left. With two out and the bags empty, a typical baseball player pulls up and plays that on a hop.

The Mets, though, have an a-typical football player in left, and he went for it ... and regretted it immediately as the ball skipped past him toward the warning track and to the wall.

But the indefatigable Tim Tebow stuck with the play, pursuing the ball with all alacrity, recovering it, and hurling it back in to shortstop J.C. Rodriguez. Rodriguez made the relay to catcher José Garcia who tagged Fox as he tried to complete the full circle.

So, by going for it, Tebow ended up turning a hit into an out. #intangibles

its Tebow, were you ever in doubt when you started reading that what the end result would be?
