Nothing to report quite yet but, even though we have to wait another 24 hours, the '17 season kicks off in a few minutes with the Yanx at Tampa.

Later on the Giants are at Arizona and then the Cubs at Cardinals tonight.
Not sure why that last one isn't the other way around as the idea of the champions getting the opening Sunday Night treatment at home seemed to be a building tradition there for a few years, but
whatever ... as 'The Void' is officially over!!

Watched the opening statements from Kay, Cone, and Paul and I'm glad
to say the mute button is working just fine this opening day.

Gives the Cubs a chance to have their home celebration on their own terms rather than Sunday Night I'd guess.

7-3 Rays is your final

Oh, and Dallas Braden (SF/ARZ booth) is going with a combination of the hipster balding-guy man-bun combined with a serious mountain man beard.

Your ML HR leader 1-1/2 games into the season? That would be Bumgarner, Madison (2)

His first put his team ahead 2-0. Then I guess he got pissed about allowing the Snakes to tie it 3-3 so he put them ahead again with his second.
And there was little doubt about either.

Over under on when the Braves as a team have more HR? May 1st?

Mark Melancon off to a rough start as the SFG closer.
the big money FA signing got the first two outs of the 9th protecting a one-run lead ... but then four straight hits later and the DBacks were doing the jump dance thing in the infield.
Giants had scored in top 9 to re-take the lead and had several chances to add on more but left 'em loaded and paid for it. They blew a lot of 9th inning leads last year too (although not enough for our tastes).

I liked Miller, although don't miss Morgan and don't have a beef with anyone on the current crew. (I'd prefer two in the booth rather than three, but that's a sports-wide complaint)

The problem is in the way this game is presented.
The Sunday Night game the only time when ESPN even pays attention to baseball they want to use this game to display all their bells and whistles, so it's almost by accident that they get around to showing you the game in between their interviews, sideline reports, pre-packaged features, and promos for other ESPN properties. ESPN, because they believes no one actually cares about baseball, thinks that those who tune in are tuning in to watch ESPN rather than whatever game happens to be scheduled.

Man, I wish Jon MIller and Joe Morgan were doing the game

Because your MUTE button needs exercise?

Today was the sixth straight opening day loss for the Yanx, so while I wish it was a better omen of a lost season to come* ... I still liked it anyway.

* just as I wish the sterling OD record of the NYM was an omen as well

That was an excellent game ( Cubs/Cards).

So, the Cubs have Kyle Schwarber leading off? Am I missing something here? This surprised me. I never thought of him as lead off material, still don't. He did get a single & a double (& was hit by a pitch), the single leading off the game, so what do I know?

Strange goings on in that Cubs-Cards series, as Adam Wainwright goes Full 50-Cent in this pitch to Jake Arrieta.

I'm impressed that Arrieta is such a good hitter that he inspires awkward grips in his opposing pitcher.

Plus Stephen Piscotty got himself hit three times in one trip around the basepaths—four if you count the second one hitting him a second time on the rebound.

That is funny. I saw that a hundred times yesterday, but that play by play bit was not included.
