Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Pretty cool to see José's return launch him into the top 10, but I'm surprised to hear he's within reach of Piazza.Clean Jones was a helluva comedian. Kept the room in stitches but never worked blue.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 Another season like this past year -- 12th best player on a 90-ish win team -- would be enough for him to pass Franco, but he'd probably need to beef that up to more like a Top-Seven finish with an equally good or better team in '17 to catch Piazza, certainly not a given seeing as how he doesn't have a set position coming into the year. Considering that he's already ahead of MP in seasons as a Met (10 to 7) with around 15% more games / PAs / ABs, etc., even before tacking on whatever he'll accumulate this coming year, that they're already in the same neighborhood isn't surprising. Failing to catch him next season means that he'd then have to re-up on a new contract for '18 or beyond so that gets a little more problematic and the next jump from Piazza to Strawberry is even more substantial.I believe the Lawrence Fishburn character in APOCALYPSE NOW was named after Clean Jones. G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I just realized I unintentionally left De Aza out. A Rick Perry moment on my part.Oops.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 I probably assumed that was intentional, especially given the debate on the board over the proper credit (or not) merited by James Loney for this past season.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I probably would have had him in Kelly Johnson-T.J. Rivera territory (my ballot) based on durability, steady incremental improvement and genuine hustle. Matt Reynolds thanks me for the oversight.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 Those points probably would have been enough to pop him ahead of d'Arnaud on the yearly ballot, so Travis thanks your oversight too.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 D'Arnaud's still here, De Aza isn't. If I've accidentally boosted Travis's confidence, it's all to the good.
