That's the two teenage shortstops whose signings the Mets announced on July 2: Andres Giminez and Gregory Guerrero, and subsequently shipped off to the Dominican Summer League.

Guerrero merely held his own. I mean, he put up an unimpressive .611 OPS, but he was the next-youngest active guy in the system. But Giminez, who turned 18 on September 4, simply lapped the competition, throwing up a .992 OPS, despite being among the youngest himself. That was good for fifth-best among the hundreds of players in the DSL, and the guys who did better were two or three years older.

His numbers even included three homers, at a power-starved level.

I'm guessing he jumps all the way to Brooklyn next season, with Guerrero at Kingsport or the GCL.

I believe Gimenez has popped into the Baseball America Mets 2017 top prospects list.

Just for fries and fritters, Andres Gimenez (not Giminez) has skipped the short season leagues and jumped to Columbia this season at the tender age of 18, and he's holding his own, going .264 / .326 / .364 // .691 against competition that is, on average, 3.5 years older than him. Amed Rosario, for comparison's sake, played seven games in the Sally League at 18 and got spanked bad (.133 / .161 / .300 // .461) before the Mets sent him back to St. Lucie to wait for the short season leagues to start.

Gregory Guerrero, similarly, waits for an assignment to Brooklyn, Kingsport, or the Mets' GCL team.
