Those are some handsome cards: Hawkins, Matsui... even Buchholz despite that weird outline.



Full-color glossy backs should have been an advancement, but the body-and-soul treatment on Johnson up there is just a textbook example of how they weren't.

I was purposely looking for old-style or Heritage cards, given how relatively new the Rockies franchise is. I didn't want to post all these newfangled cards that, in my opinion, are overly cluttered, harder to read, and overall, not nearly as nice as the cards from the '70s and earlier -- before the Rockies existed. When I did these threads regularly, I got the least satisfaction from doing the 90's expansion teams.

I like the Hawkins and the Buchholz, too. The Buchholz 'cause I especially like pre-50's cards. And the Hawkins 'cause Topps produced the images for that set to appear as if they were processed and developed using the photographic equipment and techniques available in the mid-60's. The Hawkins image has a little bit of a painterly effect to it.
