Note that not only did the Dodgers go to the matte finish helmet this year but also the LA insignia on the helmets are in raised lettering.

I like em. And I'd like the Mets to go with that look, but if everyone else does first, we may as well stay shiny.

Just saw an extreme close up. With the raised LA. If they did that with a bright orange NY on flat royal blue that would look unbelievably kool.

Whew, Duda takes the pop and we are out of it.

I don't think I ever had a Big Jim. I was a GI Joe kinda guy. Come on, he had a freakin space capsule!

Number 41 should be retired throughout the city of Los Angeles.

The world. THE UNIVERSE!!

Familia for the save. Some think he's being overworked. I think frequent use helps him wid da sink.

First-place Mets.
Last-place MFYs.
Bartolo Blast the talk of the town.
Orange and blue increasingly adorning the local populace everywhere you look.
I like the prevailing Metgeist.

Well I was convinced we were going to lose that one, and we easily could have. Kazzy retired only one batter on his own in that 2nd inning, and we ought to have chased him and gotten into their pen then.

Instead we let him get himself back into his game then got our pen all beaten up preserving the lead.

Matz otoh was better than his results showed -- cheap single, cheap HR -- and his 2-out double was HUGE. He put a good swing on that one.

It's early and presumptuous to say this but the Dodgers don't look like a very good team at all. I mean they ought to have won as easily as we ought to have lost.

Indeed, the Dodgers look worse than the Pads, and that's saying something, considering how awful the Padres were a year ago.

Maybe they need to get closer to full strength, or maybe they're better than this, but it seems a team worthy of that payroll exploits the Mets mistakes.

Chasing a starter early in the first game of a series is such an advantage for the rest of the set. Too bad the Mets missed that opportunity.

3 days, 3 games, 3 saves, 9 in a row retired for Familia
Probably gets the night off tonight, but he seems to have put his early season shakiness behind him.

A fb meme tells me that Matz is the first Mets pitcher in team history to win 9 of his first 10 decisions. Anyone know if this is a fact?

Having trouble play-indexing it because I can't look for streaks and exclude no-decisions. I do know there are 6 or so Mets who have started their Mets career with more than the 4 Matz wins.

yeah, looks to be true. can't get the exact result but can check on 'first 12 games' and only 1 Mets debuter is close with 8 wins, 8-2 over his first 10 decisions over 12 games.
