Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Alex Rodriguez HR'd tonight which, seeing as how it comes on his 40th birthday, makes him the 4th major leaguer to homer in his teens, 20s, 30s, and 40s.Can you name the other three? (two of which have NYM connections)
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Mays?Kiner?Edit - I had to look... Liner was a really dumb answer.Willie Mays made his major league debut about 3 weeks after he turned 20. Fuck.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Staub is one, and one of the ones with a NYM connection (his post-40 HRs were as a Met).Mays made his ML debut 3 weeks after turning 20 and so did not HR as a teenager in the majors. Kiner's career was cut short by back injuries so he barely made it into his 30s (retired at age 32).
dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 The first was Ty Cobb. I remember that from when Rusty became the second.

Oddly the one I could not remember was the most recent (til ARod) member of this quirky club.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Not Rickey -- fits the other three categories but came up as a 20 y/o
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 That's the final one. Also hit his 40+ as a Met
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I had completely blocked out that gary Sheffield was ever a Met.
