Two games for the split Mets squaddies today, and fortunately neither against the Fish, Nats, or Braves. Gee and Niese carry the standard for the Mets.

The Tigers seem to have fallen off their regular spring dance card. Are they fighting, or has Detroit switched camp locations?

Gee and Niese carry the standard for the Mets. A split squad this late in camp usually means some interesting floaters get added to the rosters. I'm looking for an Amed Rosario or Marcos Molina debut.

Working from home today with a sick child and trying to decide if I want to watch while working or wait and watch the replay tonight. Decisions!

After yesterday's hate crime of no games at all, they owed us two today.

Daniel Murphy outta the game cause his hamstring is all tight and stuff.

Holy smokes. Double happiness looming. A 3-1 win over Houston, and a 7-2 lead over St. Louis in the ninth.

Gee gave up no runs over 3.2 innings. Two hits, two walks, no strikeouts.

Leathersich bailed him out of his last inning, striking out the only batter he faced, getting switch hitter Jonathan Villar with a runner on.

Homers by Cuddyer and Grandy, 3.2 innings of one-run ball by Montero.

Gilmartin matched the 'Sich, also striking out the lone batter he faced, left-hander Nolan Fontana.

Highlights of the Cards game:

  • Niese: 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 6 SO.
  • Alvarez: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 SO.
  • Rice got his only batter, lefty Matt Adams, on a grounder to first.
  • Bradford, who's having a decent spring and suddenly is a candidate, pitched a scoreless ninth.
  • Wright: 2-3
  • Flores: 1-3 with a homer andwedosohaveshortstop!
  • Five walks!
  • Debuts by floaters Dustin Lawley, Jace Boyd, and Travis Tejeiron. Double in two trips for Dustin. Single in two trips for Travis. No knocks for Jacey, but a run scored. Also floated somebody named Kyle Johnson. Mean anything to anybody?
  • Castellanos: 1-2, with a triple. The power is there but he's still carrying a sub-.200 batting average.

I like that Grandy's HR went to the opposite field.
Last year's stats show none of his 20 HRs going 'Oppo' as 14 were pulled plus six more to CF

Kyle Johnson. Utility outfielder. Hit .259 / .344 / .384 // .728 for Bingo last year. Stole 44 bases in 2013, but only 12 last year. Led the organization in outfield assists last season with 14.

"I'd always had an OK arm," Johnson said. "The throwing program with the Mets ... it's different than any other throwing program I'd done.

"What they like you do is when you're playing catch before the game, when you get to long toss, they don't like you just to throw the ball as high as you can, as far as you can. Once you get out past 120 feet, they want everything to be level with your head, and they want you to bounce it, so everything's a one-hop to your catch partner.

"I think that really helped with my accuracy and arm strength, because I wasn't just trying to throw the ball as far as I could."

He was the booty they got from the Angels in the Colin Cowgill deal.
