Not so sure that kicking your ass until you beg for mercy is the best way to train. Barwis seems to have his eyes on bigger things and the Mets are just a stepping stone in his empire-building.

And I thought David was supposed to be dialing back on the workouts a bit. Seems like he isn't.

Barwis and Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon met in 2008 at the University of Michigan, and they kept in touch and began looking for ways to collaborate.

Always a good sign.

Always a good sign.

That one sentence is almost enough to make me root for Michigan State.

If the proof is in the pudding, though, the guys who participated last year seemed to generally take steps forward.

A whole lot more pudding to sort through this year, of course.

It's an interesting setup with the Mets renting Barwis space at their PSL complex and the players then paying upwards of thousands $$$ for the program, the Mets subsidize some for minor league players etc.

Not all Mets players have bought into the system. Though Zack Wheeler reported to Port St. Lucie early, for example, he did not want to pay Barwis thousands of dollars when he could work out at the Mets' regular facility for free. (Union chief Tony Clark said Sunday that he has no problem with the facility's setup.)
