Oh, at the start of the season, I wasn't good enough to be one of the two lefties to break camp in the Mets bullpen. What kind of insanity was that? I'll tell you what kind. You know how the Mets packed the bullpen with veteran retreads until the kids in the house were ready to take over? Valverde and Farnsworth, right?

Forgetting anybody? Damn straight, you are. The Mets opened the season with two lefties, and their names were Scott Rice and... and...

C'mon, people! John F. Lannan!!! That guy was totally a 2014 Met! But I not only replaced him. I replaced him so quickly and so effectively that I damn near deleted him from your memory. Fading like a picture of Marty McFly's siblings. That guy got Edg'd. That's how I work. You might get Edg'd too, if you don't watch out.



I assume Met Fairy has some pix of Met 66 to post below. In the meantime, what do you see in my 2015? Because I like it here.

This is a tough one because I have no idea how many times Terry will go to him this year.
But however many times, the ERA will be under 3.00 and the WHIP under 1.20.
Based on use, the other numbers will fall into alignment.

That's a stronger ERA in 1999 then they'll it'll look like in 2015.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Josh Edgin is headed for an MRI on Tuesday for elbow "discomfort," an alarming development for a club with little safety net in that lefty relief role.

"It's elbow. It's everything. Arm. It's discomfort," Edgin said.

Edgin's fastball velocity sagged during last year's spring training and he failed to make the Opening Day roster. Now, Edgin has similar issues with his fastball velocity. He gave up consecutive-run scoring triples to lefty batters in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Miami Marlins while registering a modest 88 to 91 mph with his fastball.

However, pitching coach Dan Warthen on Tuesday told ESPNNewYork.com that last year's issue is different from the current one. A year ago, "we felt like he was out of shape," Warthen said.

Warthen said the Mets will back Edgin off pitching in games for an undetermined period. Edgin said the entire forearm is uncomfortable.

Edgin consistently was missing the strike zone, mostly to his arm side, on Monday.

The Mets' other lefty relief candidates include Rule 5 pick Sean Gilmartin, Scott Rice, Dario Alvarez and Jack Leathersich. The Mets have Darin Gorski and former Tiger/Marlin Duane Below in minor-league camp.

Below ain't even in camp. I don't know if they can technically add him to the camp roster at this point. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't, but there seems to be rules about that.

There's nothing wrong with using Matz out of the pen. No small amount of good and great starters have debuted as relievers and spot starters until a spot in the rotation opened up. Certainly nothing wrong with considering it.

Its a concern about his surgically repaired arm and whether it could stand up to the irregular use a reliever gets rather then the structured program of a starter.
I'd consider it only after checking with several medical specialists that it would be ok.

Logically, you can't consider something only after checking with "several medical specialists," when you never would check with them unless you were considering it. I would imagine every move the Mets make with regard to their pitchers, and particularly their post-operative ones, includes input from medical specialists.

But you have already come to your conclusion. What medical specialists have any of us heard from on this question?
