Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Right time to trade on McGehee. I wonder if there's juice in that guy.

I wonder if there's juice in that guy.It ain't that big a carton, if so-- with all the professional hitting last year, he ended up with a not-super-productive .287/.355/.357... and that was his best year in three.

Facsinating transformation anyway, they are doing it without upsetting their pitching too much. They're obviously not done trading, although I'm really not sure who of their recent acquisitions plays center. Sure Kemp has plenty of experience there, but it would have been nuts to put him back there even before the hip diagnosis.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 I assumed it was going to be Upton but apparently they're planning on trying Myers in CF.For all the 'Flash' of those name acquisitions and the offensive upgrade they're getting, that is NOT going to be a good defensive outfield and that's not a park where you want to stock up on a trio of below average range guys.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 Padres continue to make deals and the Yanx continue to 'sell high' (or at least they hope so) on some of the no-name pitchers that helped keep them afloat in 2014 - as Shawn Kelley goes to SD in exchange for 22 y/o minor league hurler Johnny Barbato.Gone from the Yanx 2014 staff and/or pen so far are:David RobertsonShawn KelleyPreston ClairborneVidal Nuno & Brandon McCarthy (who were traded for each other at mid-season)Hiroki KurodaDavid PhelpsShane GreenDavid Huff
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 This is the offseason where even the Yankee management seems to have gotten behind that sentiment.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 They certainly seem to be embracing the concept of at least trying to get younger, and maybe even ... GASP! ... cheaper.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 Phil send Marlon Byrd plus cash to the Reds for pitching prospect Ben (not Blake) Lively (23 y/o in March, 4th round pick in 2013, pitched in A+ & AA in 2014)

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 Yanx and Braves swap a couple of arms.To NYY: reliever David Carpenter and minor league LHP Chasen ShreveTo Cobb County: Manny BanuelosBanuelos was one of the (very prematurely named) so-called 'Killer Bees' when Yanx fans jumped to the conclusion that Banuelos was going to combine with Dellin Betances and the since released Andrew Brackman to dominate MLB for many years to come. But he then had arm trouble and is just now making his way back.Carpenter, 30 next July, was a real good arm out of the Braves pen in '13 but a little less so in '14Shreve got in some games late last year.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Justin Upton says he's not intimidated by Petco Park's dimensions. I take that to mean it will totally be in his head by April and he'll have four home runs by August.
