Of course, I should qualify that by saying I'd cut Gilmartin if Matz proves healthy. Otherwise, Matz goes and Gilmartin stays.

Anyways, we've got what looks to be our NLDS roster set!

1) We have an 11-man staff with no fewer than six starting pitchers. Colon and Niese appear to be ticketed for bullpen duty, but are listed here as starters because I'm a little bit lazy.

2) Two guys (Gilmartin and Torres) who have been with the team all season long appear to be ticketed for Nowheresville. That really says something, though I'm not sure what.

3) The extra offensive slot goes to the amazingly redeemed Kirk Niewenhuis. The team can now pick between Johnson if they want a baserunner or Nieuwie for power. On the right side, they have Cuddy, and whoever isn't playing among Tejada/Flores. For speed and defense and the pinch-hitter they use when they used all those guys up, they have Lagares.

I'm not sure what that DFA business is about. The guy is a free agent at the end of the World Series, so they're pretty much effectively releasing him outright. But I imagine they have their reasons. Perhaps this allows him to clear waivers and get stashed on a minor league roster and held in reserve in case five pitchers suddenly go down simultaneously during the post-season.
