Mejia has been decent, not terrific, and he's arguably been the 4th or 5th best reliever in the pen this year. Hernia surgery typically requires something like 4-6 weeks recovery time from the cutting... a shutdown makes sense on a number of fronts-- player health, team performance, learning more about others, organizational depth.
