Maybe also Mejia, allowing Lannan to be 5 while Niese recovers. We could use more scary LH bench power. Downtown Brown gets screwed here.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Three backup infielders and the one backup outfielder is a slap-hitter? Who put together this roster? Willie?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Well, sure, when you pack your bench with infielders some are going to play the outfield, and some might even have a facility for it. But the offense you lose when you send the likes of Miguel Cairo and Chris Woodward out there is real.Using middle infielders as all your backups is a bad strategy. It is the folly of a managerial class who were themselves overwhelmingly versatile but punchless middle infielders. You elevate men who fill the role you sorta once filled and so redeem your own career.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Hey look, if you wanna swap out Seratelli for Brown I'm all for it but just figured we'd need a real shortstop on the bench. Him being a switchy is nice too. We're very righthanded.

But compounding things is this pitch-count era that requires about half of the 25 man roster to be made up of relief pitchers.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Doesn't seem like many of the starters have been going very deep into games so far - like even less so than normal for ST games.I can see them packing the pen in the early part of the season for that very reason. We could see 13 pitchers to start.GW hit for Brown today, adding to his good spring stats.

I think he gets farmed out to get some renewed experience at shortstop and around the infield, and remains until injury or inadequacy leads to the first infielder callup which, if the chips fall as such, will be him.

He's been pretty piss-poor with the bat AND iffy with the glove, though.Tie goes to Davis at first, until he moves, if he moves. My crystal ball's cloudy on SS, but Tejada's backing up if he doesn't go (which he probably wouldn't do, in a deal with a team that's, y'know, got a SS surplus). Flores only has a shot of backing up if Tejada stays, methinks... otherwise, he's headed down for more MI playing-time.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Mejia makes the team as the 5th starter (so that answers any questions about the injury from Friday) -- Matsuzaka to AAAAlso Andrew Brown, Qunintanilla & Germen secure spots. The Brown vs Eric Campbell fight was one of the last to be decided.Farnsworth will be at VegasSo I think the 25-man is pretty much set - or are we still waiting on backup catcher?Ike, DooDoo, Muffy, Tejada, Qball, Wright, SatinLagares, Granderson, Young^2, Brownd'Anaud + Recker/TeapartyNiese (although DL to start), Mejia, Gee, Wheeler, ColonParnell, Germen, Valverde, Lannan, Torres, Rice, FamiliaThat's 14 players plus 12 pitchers but one DL'dSomething would have to give by the time Niese is needed for Game 4/5. Logical candidates figure to be a reliever [Lannan, Germen?] ... or maybe Satin ... or maybe a trade
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 According to most scuttlebutt, Brown is the guy with a standby ticket to Vegas in his butt pocket.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Per Rubinoo Andrew Brown made the team. It also appears Duda and Ike are not separated yey... and...wait for it..... Omar Quintanilla is back !!
