Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Reportedly claimed today from P'burgh. The 28-year-old Reid made his big league debut for the Buccos in 2013 and pitched well, posting a 1.64 ERA with seven punchouts and three walks in 11 innings of work. He posted a 51.5 percent ground-ball rate and averaged 91.9 mph on his fastball in that brief Major League sample. Reid has enjoyed continued success as a reliever in the minors, as evidenced by his career 3.57 ERA in 194 innings at Triple-A. He's averaged 8.6 strikeouts and 3.2 walks per nine innings in parts of three seasons at that level.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Right-handed pitcher turns 29 in April. 2.73 ERA, 22 walks, 56 strikeouts, 59.1 innings in 36 relief appearances in 2013 for AAA Indianapolis.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 With the decent overage minors results, and the non-wowing K/BB numbers, he seems like the proverbial "just a guy." But, hey, we could use guys.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Just a guy? Well pull up a chair and I'll tell ya about another guy, who was just a guy. That's right. Scott Fuckin Rice.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Well, yeah, it's good to have dreams.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Quickly confused by me with Reid Ryan, progeny of Nolan.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Having a relief pitcher who can get batters to hit ground balls is a good thing.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 I don't know if it's a traditional strategy to try and sneak guys through waivers over the holidays when you think your rivals are too busy trimming trees to pay attention to the waiver wire, but 12/23 was a waiver claim bonanza.[list:335wt47u][*:335wt47u]Blue Jays: Claim 3B Brent Morel from White Sox[/*:m:335wt47u][*:335wt47u]Cubs: Claim RHP Brett Marshall from Yankees[/*:m:335wt47u][*:335wt47u]Mets: Claim RHP Ryan Reid from Pirates[/*:m:335wt47u][*:335wt47u]Orioles: Claim RHP Liam Hendriks from Cubs[/*:m:335wt47u][*:335wt47u]Rays: Claim 1B/OF Jerry Sands from Pirates[/*:m:335wt47u][*:335wt47u]Rangers: Claim 2B/OF Alex Castellanos from Red Sox[/*:m:335wt47u][*:335wt47u]White Sox: Claim LHP Eric Surkamp from Giants[/*:m:335wt47u][/list:u:335wt47u]
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 You can't get excited about a waiver claim, but a 3.50 ERA over 65 innings doesn't appear beyond him. Well worth the very low risk.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 I live for getting excited over waiver claims.I'm certain this guy is Gary Gentry, Gary Gygax, and Gary U.S. Bonds rolled into one.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Reid should shift the NL balance of power.
