Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2013 Author Posted October 6, 2013 Dusty has long been a target of some baseball scribes, and particularly the number-crunching (sabremetric) types, who feel, among other things, that he overplays veteran players at the expense of younger ones.

Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 yes, but for which team? I don't know where he has any connections or ties, besides Minny, Oakland, LA, Mets and D-backs.Maybe Seattle, since he was a former PCL manager of the year.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I think Porter stays in Houston. How about Joey Cora to the Mariners?

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Royals will probably hire Dusty.

Could interview and/or fit anywhere I suppose but probably won't take a "bad" job (Houston, Seattle) on the theory that he'll get a good one eventually even if he has to wait a year.Jayson Werth was recently quoted as wanting Cal Ripken to manage the Nats. Not that anyone asked him but it threw the idea out there and now Cal himself isn't batting the idea down. Sure he hasn't managed or even coached anywhere before but he's Cal Fucking Ripken. Is he feuding with Orioles owner Angelos? (is anyone NOT feuding with him?)Will the Nats hire him just to stick it to Angelos? Will GM Mike Rizzo be willing to share the headlines with such a strong local presence as Ripken?

Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Reds hire pitching coach Bryan Price as their manager in a two-year deal.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 The Price is right, bitch!I don't know much about this guy, he was a lefthanded pitcher but topped out in AA/AAA. The Reds have an awful lot of talent, I think they could easily have been where the Cardinals are now.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 You tell me Price + Reds + Pitching + Lefthanded and I get this guy:Had that David Cone thing going --- tough dude with a boyish all-American face. I also associate him with those big letters on the back of the Reds uniforms.Always good to see pitchers get the big chair.Agreed about the Reds talent, and it's not like the Tigers, where their big bats force them to trade off defense. Votto and Bruce are defensive assets. A lot of meh seasons this year from the supporting cast though. Mesaraco, Frazier, Cozart, and Phillips (despite 100 RBI) took turns slumping all year. That's talent!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Oh, and Terry Collins is now MLB's oldest manager.
