Kingsport, in a best of three series, was tied one game apiece, and leading 3-2 with two out in the ninth in game three, before allowing five runs to score and Tennessee dreams to die (DIE!!) Ricardo Jacquez and Robert Coles failed to stem the tide in the ninth. The former had already pitched two innings before losing control in his third. He had had a pretty dominant season (1.74 ERA in 22 1/3 IP, with 33 SO and 9 BB, and a .162 BAA.

Not meant to be.

But Paul Sewald finishes the ninth for Luis Rojas' Sand Gnats. An utter dismantling of Augusta , 10-2.

Three hits each from Maikis De La Cruz and Stefan Sabol, with two-hit games from Eudy Pina, Brandon Nimmo, Jeff Reynolds, and Albert Cordero. The lone homerun came from shortstop Phil Evans.

Ninth-inning action in Trenton. Dykstra on for the third time (at first), with two out and Cory Vaughn up.

Posted

Mo's nephew whiffs, and we go to the bottom of the ninth. Chasen Bradford struck out two in a perfect eighth, so we'll see if Pedro Lopez sticks with him.

Posted

Salt Lake plated two in the bottom of the fourth, including one on a bases-loaded, two out walk. The 51s escaped the inning without further damage, but now cling to a 3-2 lead.

Kyle Roller leads off with a single against Bradford. Trenton replaces him with pinch-runner Casey Stevenson.

Ben Gamel at the plate.

Yes, Reegie.

I'll be at tomorrow's Game 2.

On to the 10th.

Corona flies to Ceceliani in center and Al Castillo follows asuit. We go to extras.

Ambidextrous Pat Venditte on for the Baby Bombers, with Travis Tejieron due to lead off.

Posted

Ryan Sandoval starts the sixth with a single for Vegas.

Back in Trenton, we have a walk by Tajeiron follow'd by a Celiliani Cingle. Forsythe bunts 'em over and we have second and third, one out for Cesar Tovar.

Posted

Tovar falls behind 0-2 but then hits a sac fly to put the Beemers on top, 4-3!!!

Top of the order and Danny Muno is hitting with two out and the insurance run on second.

Posted

In Vegas, Ryan Sandoval advances to second on an errant pickoff throw, but then gets nailed at third trying to stretch it! OH MERCY!

Posted

Muno's getting intentionally walked to bring up beisbol lifer Josh Rodriguez.

Hey, Trenton, you don't want that veteran savvy coming up in this spot. Trust me!

Posted

HA!!! Rodriguez singles home St. Cecelia. Muno to third.
[crossout:1pzefhc2]Dyksra[/crossout:1pzefhc2] Rhyne Hughes up.

Posted

... Jeff Walters, of course, owner of a staggering 38 saves this season in Bingo.

And 2012 Met Justin Hampson is coming on for Las Vegas.

Posted

Top o' the order for Trenton against Walters. Mason Williams leads off, falls behind 1-2, and... takes strike three!

One away, and Ramon Flores up.

Posted

Leftfielder Flores falls in the hole 0-2...
...fouls one off...
...takes a ball outside...
... and grounds out to Hughes!

Two away!

Posted

In Salt Lake, Brandon Hicks has doubled in the seventh, but a whiff by Nieuwenhuis and there are two away.

Posted

Second baseman and #3 hitter Jose Pirela digs in for Trenton and... BOOOM! Double to center over the head of Alonzo Harris, who came on for defense, moving Ceciliani over to left.

Posted

And... HOLY SHIT! He singles Pirela home! That insurance run driven in by Rodriguez is the difference now here at Arm & Fucking Hammer Park, as Walters is clawing to get that last out.

Tyler Austin Fairy at the plate for Trenton.

Posted

Pinch-runner Jose Arcia takes over at first, with a 1-1 count on Austin...

... foul ball! Down to their last strike!

Again!
