MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 In case anyone happened to see it.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I was thinking of skipping this in the theaters but I think I'll wait until it comes out on cable and skip it then instead.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 The reviews I've read weren't awful, but from what I've heard, the box office was dreadful. The movie seems to be dead on arrival, much like John Carter was a couple of years ago. After having endured two of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, I have no desire at all to see this movie.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Yeah, it got killed at the box office.....I read between making and marketing the movie it cost Disney $375 million.....that's just absurd, but it seems to be the trend now....
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 It seems you're not alone, Grimmy-- Depp isn't a huge fan of watching his movies, either. (Perhaps he should.)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Depp underwent a ritual of initiation into an Indian tribe as part of his preparation for the role. (Read as... the studio's coverage for casting a non-First Nation-er.) Always embarrassing when you make an allegedly life-changing commitment to a film only to have it die on arrival.I imagine, however, Disney will recoup their money in secondary and tertiary markets. They almost always do.
