Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Hanrahan and Bailey are both out for the Sox. maybe they can give us something for the soon-to-be-returning Doublefrank, like a 5th starter type.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I'm not getting this and I feel bad about that.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Their current fifth starter makes $15 million this year and next, and I wouldn't take Aceves if he came with a year's supply of Shake Shack. Did you have someone specific in mind?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 A decent Triple-A outfielder might be nice, too.I think the idea is to find somebody desperate enough to be willing to take Francisco on, and ideally get someone who's somewhat useful in return.

Just throwing ideas out there: We're going to be walking around with a Proven Closer in our pocket soon and a team like the Red Sox would hate to see a wonderful start waylaid by injuries in the bullpen.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 They would be a good fit for FrankFrank, for sure. Maybe, like Ben said, an OF could come this way.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 We'll need to get Francisco some road test innings first.Would they be interested in an Atchison boomerang?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 He's kind of a "proven closer" by one of the looser definitions of the term. The Braden Looper definition. The only looser definition is the Scott Strickland definition.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Or, say, 1/3 of a Kyra Sedgwick. If we can get anything usable or potentially usable for the guy-- pay his salary/get two low-level arms, e.g.-- I'd take it.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 If the Mets traded him just for salary relief and then anounced the savings is going to cut all food prices ten cents I think the fans would be happy
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Can we trade Jeffy for a bag of balls?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Well, I packed my bags and bought myself a ticketFor the land of the big green wallAloha Flushing Meadows,Hello Faneuil Hall I just stepped down from the airplane When I heard her sayPahk yer cah in Hahvahd YahdAnd lets go to FenwayHey, Lets trade Frankie to the Red SoxWhisper in their earKicka puka wanna proven closerAre the words they long to hearJust send us back a lousy prospectYou cant still be mad at Mookie, dear.Lets trade Frankie to the Red SoxSo Parnell can close this year
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 BoSox temporarily "remedied" their bullpen woes this week by installing recently called-up pitcher Allen Webster as a starter and moving Felix Doubront to the suddenly depleted bullpen. So Webster starts last night against the Twins and promptly gives up Four in the top of the 1st. No worries though as the Sox come back with Five in their half of the frame.Except that Webster--relieved by Doubront halfway through--combine to cough up Seven runs in the 2nd on the way to a 15-8 Sox loss. Doubront took the bullet for the team staying in through the 7th allowing runs 12, 13 & 14 along the way.So maybe they need a 'Plan B'Seriously though, I don't think Boston is going to see Frank-Frank as a solution - even if he was ready which he's not. A mid-season deal from here to ... well, wherever is a more likely scenario after he's (hopefully) proven to be healthy. Gotta remember though that he's got a high price-tag on his butt meaning the return haul isn't going to be much or it's going to be for someone else's bloated contract. I can't see much in the way of decent prospects coming back.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I hope Francisco can be better than our 7th best option or whatever. It doesn't seem like the market for relievers is going to be such that you'll get much for him. Although maybe we can trade him for a different replacement level outfielder since none of the random ones we try seem to work out.
