None. I mean, I remember it happening and all but saw it as little more than a player getting into a beef with a writer. BFD.
I had no recollection, for instance, that it was a spring training event.
Not exactly what I think of as a "pivotal" day in NYM history.

Pretty good baller during his first Met stint. And the biggest jerk-off asshole ever to put on the Met uni. An albatross to Bobby V and the Mets during the 1999 playoffs because someone up there and over Bobby's head demanded that Bonilla, by now hobbled and without any apparent skills, nevertheless be on the post-season roster.

This happened in April (April 10...or 10 April, depending where you are), not March. The book came out the first week of the season.

The alternative explanation is that the Genius wanted to show he was the man by picking a fight with the most emotionally unstable player in the organization (as well as, a 1st round Future Hall of Famer). But I still love you batmags!

It happened in Port St Lucie. The Klap went to ST to give team management advance notice of the book.

edit: On the other hand, you may be correct. The Klap's article is ambiguous.

Next-day coverage from Chicago Tribune, April 11, 1993.

Times coverage here, same date. Plus I remember watching it reported that Saturday evening after the loss to Houston.
