First Dominican shortstop in the majors, and the first player to make it there from thenceforth-hotbed San Pedro de Macoris.

Give me something about Kelvin Torve.

Torve translates from French to English as 'grim,' an apt description for his 0-8 1991 season.

I'm thirsty for knowledge about Norm Sherry.

Norm and Larry Sherry, brothers, formed the first all-Jewish battery in the majors, as Dodgers.

We've done Jewish. So let's go Christensen...John, that is.

Christensen's comings and goings played a big role in the 1986 Red Sox.

The Mets traded Christensen to the Boston Red Sox along with Calvin Schiraldi, Wes Gardner and La Schelle Tarver for Bob Ojeda, Tom McCarthy, John Mitchell and Chris Bayer. After spending all of 1986 with the International League's Pawtucket Red Sox, he was sent as the player to be named later in the deal that netted Boston Dave Henderson and Spike Owen from the Seattle Mariners.

Tell me about Leo Foster.

a songwriter, he wrote "My Old Kentucky Home"... no wait ... "you make me feel like dancin"... no that's not right either.
He was a slugging LFer past his prime.
no, that's not it.

Leonard Norris Foster (from Kentucky, and therefore he did in fact have an old kentucky home) was a middle infielder in the 1970s, who came up with the Braves before coming over to the Mets (76-77). He couldn't hit a lick.

According to Wikipedia: "Foster had one of the more unfortunate debuts in Major League history, when playing his first game for the Braves against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium on July 9, 1971. Fielding at shortstop, he commits an error on the first ball hit to him. After flying out in the 3rd inning, Foster hits into a double play in the 5th inning, followed by hitting into a triple play in the 7th inning." That's like a negative cycle, isn't it?

tell me something about dark matter.

You watch a Mets game and the starting pitcher just doesn't have it, the offense is anemic, defense is shoddy and the bullpen makes you lose the last shred of hope you didn't know you still had. The fans are lifeless and even Gary, Keith, and Ron are off their game. And yet all of the suck doesn't add up to the feeling of suckiness you have. That empty space is filled with Dark Metter.

Butch Huskey.

At age 26, his baseball-reference similarity score was George Foster.
At age 28, it was Paul O'Neill.

Gimmie something about Larry Bearnarth.

Larry Bearnarth pitched ten innings of relief in the first game of a doubleheader on June 9, 1964 (a.k.a. The Happiest Recap's Game No. 25), as the Mets beat the Cubs, 6-5 in twelve. In doing so, he set a record for longest Met relief outing, one that still stands today; nine days earlier, he pitched seven innings of relief against the Giants in the notorious 23-inning Memorial Day twinbill nightcap loss to the Giants.

Tell me something about Dan Boitano.

No Boitano expert, me, but I can tell you that Dan Boitano was drafted five times before signing. He left the Mets when he went to the Rangers in the trade to get Jim Kern, who I thought was coming here in earnest, but just passed through like a ghost, joinining the bounty for George Foster. Hours later, I think.

That's two modestly interesting things rather than a solidly interesting thing, I confess. Maybe you can tell me something about Luis Rivera.

Luis Rivera's data on Mets by the Numbers was entered improperly 5 years ago but no one ever noticed until I did just the other day.

I had him playing in 2004, not 1994.

I sort of remember him as an Expo better than a Met. Most recently he was coaching third base for the Blue Jays.

Oh, and tell me something about ... Ricky Bottalico
