Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Great photo essay (or vid cap essay) of the 1971 ASG, featuring Mets Hall-of-Famers Tom Seaver and Lindsey Nelson, plus future Met Doc Ellis inexplicably wearing a lefty batting helmet during a righthanded at-bat. (Doc was a switchie.)How good? This good.

Oh, the sideburns!Warm, full, but with some sharp notes and a pleasing aftertaste... 1971 was apparently an excellent year for the 'burns. Also, the hat stylee-- I'm not positive, but I think Aparicio may be hiding a few spare balls and/or Venezuelan emigres in his high-rider.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 A tremendous year for hands tucked in back. What's up with that? I remember Rod Carew as being quite dapper. Seeing him with that big greasy chaw is fascinating and disturbing at the same time.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Nine months later, Willie looks a little worn from his 5,000 km trip (Photo featured on metsblog today).Meanwhile I'm surprised to see the other Willie's middle-age spread started so early in his career. Edit: the NL had 3 HoF Willies.
