Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I'm not saying he's right or wrong, but he's not a financial analyst, he's a fantasy football analyst.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Haven't we known for a couple years that the Wilpons are broke?

Last week's stories about his release all said that the deferral was just a small portion and wasn't for a very long term. Whatever the amount of the deferral amounts to hardly seems like the difference between being solvent or not, even temporarily, or to be much of a headache for the next owner. Hell, they ate half again that much in one bite last year with Castillo & Ollie.Haven't we known for a couple years that the Wilpons are broke? There are enough variations on the definition of "broke" that, even if they are defined that way, we don't really know what it means.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 So he's not a financial analyst and it ain't the Wall Street Journal publishing his account. We'll see. Obviously, there's broke and there's broke. Myself, I'd love to be as broke as a Wilpon.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 IMHO..Darren Rovell of CNBC is the best sports business reporter bar none.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2012 Author Posted November 11, 2012 I was just passing along someone else's information. Believe it, don't believe it, I don't care. We'll see if he's right. The Wilpons have given us no indication to show otherwise.I changed the thread title to reflect the title he gave himself in his Twitter feed.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2012 Author Posted November 12, 2012 The author of the comment which I was just passing along "FYI" deleted the tweets.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 But, again, would this really be news? I think (regardless of the validity of this report) that the writing's been on the wall for a while.I will say that with every passing day my optimism about re-signing Dickey or Wright fades.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 If somebody from a major national newspaper really offered inside information that the game was done and the race was run and that the sale was imminent by X date, sure it's news. Else, it's speculation amplified by a wishful fan base, many of whom like to play journalist in the blogosphere.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 The values of commercial real estate in the New York area have been climbing recently, and that benefits the holdings of Sterling Enterprises. They might have made enough money from this rebound to offset any on-paper losses of their baseball team, and more. (Not figuring in any Madoff plusses and minuses)This is like Ted Turner saying he lost money on the Braves while he was making gazillions from his tv station that carried the games. Its just a question of which pocket is holding the money."Broke" means they can't pay their rent or heating bills. I don't think the Wilpons are "broke" by any stretch of the imagination.Later
