Yeah he's already out, but without the 'runners return' rule his team wins the game. The umps, in that situation, also have the option to call the batter out when the interference is so obviously intentional - but you get the idea.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 7 hits + 8 walks + 1 HBP + 1 error + 4 SBs somehow = 2 runs.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Those corners that Cain was getting from Dale Scott for the first few innings seem to have dried up and flown away.No matter.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Nice inning by Rauch. We need some insurance like NOW daddy! No matter who gets the ball in the 9th.

It would never happen to end a game, but if it happens with none out the run from third should score whether it's intentional or not, since they didn't make a play on that runner.I'm not saying it's not the rule, just that I disagree with the reasoning behind it.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Hey Terry, here's a thought for your upcoming 9th inning dilemma -- why not try the guy who's given up just 3 hits and 2 walks combined over his last 8+ innings, had a .115 BAA and 0.66 WHiP during July? And here's the good part ... he's already in the game and has thrown only 10 pitches.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Hey look! Big-time scoring opportunity!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I'm not sure if I wouldn't run for Davis and Murphy.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Mets have 1 hit w/RiSP tonight -- and that one didn't even get a run in.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 You've GOT to be kidding me.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I was sure they were going to blow that one since the 3rd inning. But they somehow managed to blow their opportunities to blow it.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 That game doesn't deserve a postgame handshake. It deserves a postgame shrug/embarrassed slink-away.

Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) From espn.com:The Mets had 20 baserunners, partly courtesy of nine walks, a hit batter and an error. The last team to have that many baserunners and produce only two runs in a win? That would be the Padres in 2008, against the Mets no less, according to Mark Simon of ESPN Stats & Information. The indispensable UMDB reminds us that it was this beauty, which ended with Scott Schoenweis walking the bases loaded (the last intentional), and then pushing across the game-ending run on a HBP. It was the first of three straight 2-1 losses at Petco, two of which were walk-offs. The other walk-off loss ended when Pedro Feliciano surrendered a leadoff home run in the 10th to Scott Hairston.OE: Typo cleanup (in in the 10th) Edited August 2, 2012 by Guest
