Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Terry in the Snooze today admits he really loves Valdespin, says he's got thunder in his bat, good energy, likes his versatility, might not demote him even though Cedeno is on his way back etc etc. Now he may just be saying "thanks" aloud because he knows he's gonna go down but maybe not too.I know from the Muffy thread that some of you are dubious as to Valdespin's ability and/or readiness to supplant Muffy as an everyday 2B, and as I've thought it over maybe it's fair to assume that both he and Muffy are destined to be LH hitting reserves. Seems as though if they were serious about keeping him it it would cost Nieuwy a job or maybe Rottino, which would allow Quintanilla to stay on as the regular shortie vs. righties at least.Whaddaya think they'll do?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Rottino is the one probably heading out. Quintanilla holds on to the starting outfield job and Cedeo joins Turner as the backup infielder pair.Valdy joins the outfield mix. That leaves them a little thinner from the right side, but I think that's the way they're going. They haven't found much PT for Rottino, and they seem to be giving Ike more faith against lefties (warranted? eh).The real pinch is when Tejada comes back.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 I think Cedeno replaces Rottino, and Tejada (assuming no other injuries in the meantime, natch) replaces Omar Q.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Omar, I think, will survive. Valdy or Turner would go sooner at this point.Crappy fielding team. I think it behooves us to keep our gloves around. Q is outhitting the field, too. And he outhit Valdespin in Buffalo, too.Next week may change that, but my money's on Q surviving both returns. He's been that good!
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 I don't see why Cedeno sticking is such a given. Me, I'd hold onto Turner, Valdespin and Q, and see if Sandy can't deal Cedeno for a bullpenner that doesn't give me the willies.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Well, it's not a given, but nobody comes off the DL only to get walking papers. Valdespin has options. Ronny does not. So he gets a chance to float.

He's been that good!well he's down to .258 .352 .371 but that's still decent for a SS. I haven't been enamored with his defense either but he has a good rep so maybe that was just a stray error here and there. He has made some nice ones as well.we need a fifth guy for the OF right? Rottino/Valdespin. Quintanilla doesn't play there right? I could see it being Rottino tomorrow, but you might want to keep Valdespin for the 5th OF spot?. Options play into it too I imagine in which case Q probably stays.

Sending him down now doesn't mean it's forever and some additional move needs to be made when Tejada returns anyway.I tend to like Q right now. Valdy may have more upside but Q is more polished and ready NOW!!!Almost hard right now to even remember what Cedeno was like. His term was so brief and comparatively so long ago. What we really need is a RH hitter to alternate with, if not flat-out replace, Muffy (5th worst IsoP in all MLB right now)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Yeah, I think Turner and Cedeo are going to be stealing some PA from him going forward.

Rottino and Omar both have options theyselves.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 i don't think Omar has options.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 This is the seventh big league season 'e's appeared in over eight years. Why would 'e 'ave options?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 You're right; he does not.Myrna, then?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 I know I for one said last week that Vlady didn't belong up here, since then of course he has played like he does belong.I think he stays because it looks like he's the man right now.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Rubin suggests maybe a reliever goes for Cedeno, I guess Elvin Ramirez.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Elvin fooled around, fell in love and was sent down.
