Assuming yesterday's rain, that was a pain, has blown plainly out towards Spain, the make-up contest will kick off just after 4PM EDT followed by the regularly scheduled game at more or less its regularly scheduled time.

Miguel Batista gets the start in the opener.

This is like the Opposite of Spahn and Sain and pray for rain isn't it?

I know weather reporters are notoriously spotty, but sometimes I wished they'd do better about retroactively raining games out. Why not play the doubleheader Saturday? Like "hey, it's not raining, we're here, why not just keep playing?"

I like the 6 hours of baseball and all, but I don't like the Miguel Batista scenario.

On a 68-degree Sunday in June when you're 18, nothing better. A little tougher on a 34-degree Monday in April when 40 is in my rearview mirror.

One fo my favorite "going-to-the-game" memories was seeing a single admission double header between the Mets and Brews at old County Stadium in 1998. I got Mookie's autograph that day, Mike Piazza was new to the Mets and I got to see Todd Hundley play LF. The Mets took the first game with a ninth inning rally and had no problem taking the late game.

Good times!

I remember having a day off from work on a Wednesday and going to a Tides' double-header when I was 22 or 23. Good times. Drank a lot of beer, got sunburned. The only downside is that in the minors they play 7-inning games for doubleheaders (and there was no 7th-inning stretch in either game).

So down-side: Lincecum getting rained out yesterday and going in the first game means I'm not going to the game tonight. (Wife likes to see Timmy pitch)

up-side: I casually mentioned that the Giants still go to Philadelphia, so I may have gotten myself an excuse to mock that stadium for the first time since early 2007, praise their beer list, and root for the away team.

I'm determined to go the the gym after work, which may include a fight to make them put on SNY.

Jordan Valespin and Jeremy Hefner are both at Citi Field... If they will be activated, then when and for whom? Perhaps for Batista after the first game?

I was kind of thinking that they might temporarily swap Batista's spot for a reliever.

Not sure what's going on with Valdespin, though. I figure either Baxter is on his way out, or there's some injury to an infielder or outfielder that we haven't yet heard about.

Adam Rubin ? @AdamRubinESPN
Terry Collins cryptically said there is a player who may be disabled in next hour.

"In the next hour, one of these 25 Mets might be injured. Who will it be? Stay tuned... but first, let's check in with Kevin."

yeah, weird that it's both. Valdespin doesn't really appear to fill any need. Hefner for Batista is sort of something you'd consider anyway, but Batista doesn't actually have options right?

Batista released for Valdespin to get a PH in the night game and then Hefner for him afterwards?

It's a thought, but he's talking about potentially putting someone on the disabled list, so Turner or Parnell (who hasn't pitched in several days despite a the team being pinched once or twice during that period) or Wright or somebody may have an unreported owie.

Apparently someone 'may' be disabled in the next hour or so.

No specifics beyond that, even to the point of it Terry's headed to the clubhouse with a cudgel or just if we're waiting to see if someone feels better.

Since it's Valdespin, who has played both infield and outfield, it could really be just about any position player who's a DL candidate, other than Thole or Nickeas. I doubt that Valdespin would be the replacement for Davis, but he could be the guy for Cedeno, Turner, Murphy, Wright, Tejada, Nieuwenhuis, Bay, Duda, Baxter, or Hairston.

Sheesh!

I feel Turner or Cedeno or Baxter (Cedeno supposedly not visible in Adam Rubin's "try to count 25 guys on the field" game) wouldn't garner Valdespin, who I prseume they'd want to start?

"Rotoworld.com" says that Adam Rubin says that it's Cedeno.

According to ESPN New York's Adam Rubin, Ronny Cedeno is likely headed to the disabled list.
It's not clear what type of injury Cedeno is dealing with nor how he suffered it. The 29-year-old infielder has hit .250 with a .771 OPS through 16 plate appearances this season. Jordany Valdespin could be officially promoted to take Cedeno's place on the Mets' 25-man roster.

A relief that it's Cedeno and nothing more at this point.

Yes and no. Talented but erratic. The Mets seem bent on making him into a versatile outfield/infield sub at this point. He'd have to take a jump or two forward defensively to be viewed as a regular middle infielder. But Reese Havens sure has helped him by taking a jump or two backwards health-wise.

Valdespin also had some temperamental issues last year (i.e. he's allegedly a hot head).

adding a pitcher too?

Well know more in a few minutes, but Adam Rubin is reporting that IF/OF Jordany Valdespin and RHP Jeremy Hefner are due to be at Citi Field as part of a taxi squad. They are allowed to be with the team for 24 hours without being activated.

Teams are now allowed to utilize a Taxi Squad particularly when doubleheaders after a suspended or cancelled game taxes a teams roster.

Valdespin, 24, was hitting .276 with two homers and seven RBIs in 76 at-bats with Triple-A Buffalo and has been playing mostly center field this season

Weather forecast looking pretty good:

Tonight: A slight chance of rain after 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. Southwest wind between 14 and 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Hefner's probably emergency in case of burning out pitchers with a reliever starting.

or they could activate him for Cedeno to backup Batista, and then send him down for Valdespin.
