Bennett was the third of three lefthanders traded for during a 2-week span in June of 1967. Nick Willhite and Bob Hendley were the first 2.

Koosman and McGraw at the time were in the minors (McGraw additionally was in Westrum's doghouse).

Bennett made six appearances before getting farmed out himself.

I take it that you're the expert around here on fringe 1967 Mets. So how do you pronounce Joe Grzenda's last name? And how many syllables?

I don't know that but would guess Gruh-ZEN-duh

His first game as a Met was marked by two noteworthy occurrences:

1) The triple play scene used in The Odd Couple was filmed before the game.

2) Wes Westrum outsmarted the Pirates when he sat on his knowledge of a slipup in their lineup card versus the one posted until it could help him. Then he pounced and got a couple of their runs taken off the board.

Transition years like 1967s and 1983s are great years, even though we don't always realize what's happened right in front of us until years later.
