Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Assuming an opening day lineup of Thole-Davis-Murphy-Turner-Wright-Tejada-Bay-Torres-Duda, the Mets bench currently looks like this:Catcher: Ronny PaulinoInfielders: Justin Turner, Jordany ValdespinOutfielders: Mike Baxter, Fernando MartinezAs it looks now, only Turner looks like a better than even chance to be around on April 1. Others in the mix include Val Pascucci (corner infield, some corner outfield), Vinny Rottino (corner outfield, some catcher), Adam Loewen (corner outfield, some center), Mike Nickeas (catcher), and Kirk Nieuwenhuis (outfield), among some other longer shots from the mid-minors.Obviously, some other cats will be coming to town. Recent rumor is that Ryan Theriot is going to be non-tendered. He'd likely give you more offense than Jack Wilson, but less defense. Though neither would give you any power. He also has more experience playing around the diamond, while Wilson has rarely strayed from short.
