Evans, by the way, when he's clean-shaven, and rubbery, with his pursed lips, and sad-faced on the bench, totally reminds me of Mitch Gaylord. They flash on an active energetic bench and one sad guy is on his own and I think, "What's Mitch Gaylord doing in a Mets uniform?"

I clicked the TV off when the ball hit the ground behind Pagan. I'm a bad fan.

Yeah, me too...and that's stupid because this team really has been doing this comeback thing all year.

We should know better.

I thought Einstein said that. Or Bill James.

Now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure it was Mitch Gaylord in American Anthem.

I made sure to point out to MK and his friends, as we were departing after the win, "THIS is the reason we don't leave games early!"

Daily Update: Notes from Monday's historic loss, minors

Before Monday night, the Padres hadnt lost a game in which they led by four runs or more in the eighth inning or later was Sept. 18, 2006 at Dodger Stadium.

That was the game in which the Padres had a 9-5 lead going into the bottom of the ninth when the Dodgers connected for four straight homers.

Jon Adkins gave up home runs to the first two batters, then Trevor Hoffman came in and gave up homers to the next two hitters.

The game went to the 10th tied 9-9, San Diego scored a run in the 10th to make it 10-9, but the Dodgers won 11-10 when Rudy Seanez walked the leadoff batter and then gave up a two-run, walk-off homer to Nomar Garciaparra.

Monday marked the first time the Padres lost when leading by two or more in the ninth inning or after since June 1, 2008, at San Francisco, when they took a 3-1 lead in the top of the 10th, but lost, 4-3.

The Padres had won their last 186 games in which they led by two or more in the ninth or later. It was the longest active streak in the major leagues and the longest streak of its kind in Padre history.

on the Mets side as well

TRAILING BY TWO: The Mets trailed by two runs entering the ninth
inning last night...It was New Yorks first win after trailing by two or
more runs in the ninth inning or later since July 17, 2008 at
Cincinnati when they trailed, 8-6, heading to the ninth, but scored
four times and won, 10-8...Prior to last night, the Mets had lost their
last 195 games in which they trailed by two or more runs in the ninth
inning or later, the longest such streak in team history...Research

This game is going to be a Mets Classic - we're going to watch it many times during the offseason :)
