I read an interview with Wes Covington once, where he said that when he was a teenager, before he made the commitment to baseball, he sang with a local harmony group that later formed the nucleus of the Platters.

This wouldn't be so odd -- there's a real correlation between music and baseball. Best job of blending the two -- Arthur Lee Maye.
