Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I'm adopting the man, and I'm adopting the name for my new emo band.Lara rained dominance down upn his fellow Dominican teenagers last summer, going 4-2 for the DSL Mets with a 1.97 ERA and a .209 batting average against. Twelve of his 14 appearances were starties. When you have a 0.95 WHIP, I call your name.In 64 innings, he yielded 2 homers and 13 walks against 51 strikeouts. Yeah, maybe nobody hits too many homers in the DSL, but I'll take Walter Johnson numbers when and where I can find them. Is that so wrong? He has yet to be unveiled stateside in the Gulf Coast League. Stay tuned.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Rainly Lara is coming out of the bullpen and delivering rainy day music to Gulf Coast batters, having just logged his fifth straight scoreless appearance. He has 1.86 ERA over 9.2 innings, logging six saves, along with eight strikeouts and only one walk. That WHIP? It's 1.14, baby, and it's been dropping.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Be a good name for a dominatrix. I demand an explanation of why he's named that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 I expect Rainy is a diminutive of Rainier or somesuch.Be a good name for a dominatrix.Yeah, I've had some adventure looking for photos.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Brainy Rainy worked out of the pen for the DSL Mets this season, compiling 24 1/3 innings, walking seven and striking out 18 with a 2.22 ERA. I predict he gets most of the first half off next year, gets into a few games with Savannah, but sees a lot of work in Brooklyn or Kingsport.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 Haven't thought much about Rainy recently, have you? Well, guess who struck out 10 batters for Brooklyn tonight?Second time this year, becoming the third pitcher in Cyclones history to reach double digits in strikeouts twice in a year.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Mets Farm Report @MetsFarmReportBust out the umbrellas! What a Rainy July! Rainy Lara finished the month of July w/ 40K & 3BB in 29 IP
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Rainy-Assed Lara is starting 2013 the way he ended 2012, with six scoreless innings against Rome. He gave up a mere two hits in the 4-0 Savannah victory, striking out six Romans and walking one.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 7 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 7 K/1 BB last night versus the Hickory Crawdads, bringing his totals to 4-1, 1.45/0.89, with a 30-to-4 K/BB ratio. How few guys is Rainmaker walking (3.2%)? He's striking out more batters looking (5.3%). Plawecki and Nimmo should have company on the plane/train for St. Lucie.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 11, 2013 Author Posted May 11, 2013 Here comes the Rain again, throwing seven innings against the Rome Braves.IPHRERBBSOHRERA7.05210801.42That didn't get the Sand Gnats a win --- suddenly punchless with Nimmo on the shelf, but it did accomplish the remarkable feat of lowering a 1.45 ERAThat's a 38 strikeouts to four walks, a 9.5-1 ratio. We may not have a first-place team, but with Harvey, Wheeler, Montero, Snydergaard, and Lara, it's like we have a marquee guy going every night at five different levels, and they seem to have their starts scheduled right now like they're in a rotation.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 i'd take that rotation over the one we currently have.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 Another trip through the rotation, another night when sons of men pointlessly try and oppose Rainy Lara with ashen clubs.8.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 SOHis ERA sits at 1.17. People in Savannah are soooooooo lucky.Game had to go to the eleventh, before the Gnats broke through for six runs and the win, but break through they did.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 A small splash of cold water on the Rainy for HoF campaign from writer Matt Eddy at BAMets RHP Rainy Lara has a 1.17 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 9-1 K-BB ratio for Low-A Savannah this season, but scouts are concerned that he’s getting results primarily with a low-90s sinker and a funky arm action. Questions about the secondary stuff and that arm action suggest to many that he may be headed to the bullpen. Keep in mind also that Savannah is probably the No. 1 pitcher’s park in the minors.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Savannah? So every home game he pitches is a Rainy night in Georgia.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Good call.I'm crazy about this guy. Want satisfying results? Adopt your guys while they're still in the DSL.Lara goes today against Charelston. Battle of beloved, quaint southern cities with first-place on the line.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Adam Rubin wrote a lustful blog post about Rainy. He doesn't have high heat --- his blazer comes between 89-92, and occasionally gets up to 93, but his hard stuff all sinks and at 21 he has time to add a mile or two maybe. He's been moved up to St. Loo where his first start was typical but for a few unearned runs and fewer strikeouts but...8.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO.That's the stuff, you know?Combined over two levels, he's 4-2, wit a 1.38 ERA in 58 2/3 innings, with 55 strikeouts, six walks, ONE homer allowed. It's great to pick a guy out because he sounds like a sad pretty emo girl and have him turn out to be the goods.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 is the misspelling of "meant" as "ment" (not to mention the misuse of commas) supposed to be ... ironic? Or just one more example of a culture in decline?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Like such a sad and lovely emo girl could possibly see a typo past all her tears and mascara.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Cruising against the Land o' Lakes Tigers, retiring 13 straight batters, the irresistible force that is Rainy Lara's pitching ran in the fifth inning into the immovable object that is Rainy Lara's fielding. A Lara error opened the door for four Tiger runs (only one earned, but fielding counts too), and Rainy took his first Florida State League loss. Five more strikeouts to throw in his closet. One more walk in his shoebox.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Rainy is in Bingo, and a solid part of a solid rotation (Tyler Pill excepted), going 3-1 in six starts and 33 2/3 innings so far. He uploaded his strikeout software last start, fanning seven in 6 2/3 innings versus the Harrisburg Senators.Rainy is on track.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 The Rain keeps falling in Bingo, leading the staff with a 2-0 record and a 2.04 ERA through three starts. A 0.91 WHIP (seventh in the Eastern League) goes a long way.He gave the team their first win back on April 10 when he combined with two relievers for a two-hitter over the Akron Rubber Duckies. He opens a series against Portland today, locking up with Mike Aguilera who previously starred for Binghamton... SUNY Binghamton, that is.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 27, 2017 Author Posted April 27, 2017 Discovered! Rainy is pitching for the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League!Only seven innings so far, but them's seven shutout innings! The Mets will be wanting you back soon enough, Rainy!
