Kinda cool

DavidWaldstein Was looking at Beltran's career stats and noticed he has 289 stolen bases and 289 home runs. IN-CREDIBLE COINCIDENCE!!!

Let's go and make a huge deal about 300.

Pirates' radio (not to be confused with the excellent movie "Pirate Radio") tonight: "Jason Bay asked for a couple of days off." No he didn't.

Dickey on base with a walk , Cohen intimating that R.A. is in savage pain out there , Keith saying that Reyes if he stays healthy is on his way to the HOF.

Tejada with a hit....

two out two on and Murphy at the plate....oh wow , great leaping catch at SS from Murphy's liner...

Jesus H Christ , the guy seating behind Burkhardt as he does his piece looks fucking creepy, talking about the guy on the right.

I forgot that Murphy is such a great a hitter that he has to play every day and bat cleanup, even against lefties.

Unlike, say, Duda's.

I believe the boxing parlance for what the Mets are doing is "carrying" McDonald.

What the hell is it with Bay? How was he frozen like that with two strikes? Granted, Beltran and Wright have done that a boatload, but after two days off to look like that at the plate, he looks plain lost.

Dickey with the CG. He deserved a better fate. Murphy's misplay lost the game. I know it was only his 2d game of the year at 3B but he should have at least knocked the ball down.

Also: Dickey hitting into the 1st pitch DP with the bases loaded; Paulino and Bay looking at strike 3 w/runners at 2d and 3d; and, Bay possibly misplaying Jones' drive which resulted in the 1st run.

9 LOB-sters for the Mets - a figure which doesn't even include the three runners who neither scored nor were left on because they were erased (Reyes caught stealing plus the two GiDPs).
Some of it was bad luck and/or good defense from the Bucs (one day after they looked awful) but the big hit just never came. Hell, we were half lucky to score the runs we did.

I thought Pagan was going to be sent on Duda's double. Maybe he's thrown out if he does go, but we sure weren't getting anywhere waiting around for the RiSP hit.

I would've sent Pagan.

In fact, I had a discussion with Chip Hale about the Pirates lack of arm strength in the outfield before the game (he was chatting with the fans behind the dugout) and discussed this very possibility. Chip also didn't know that today was Jose's birthday; we wished him well when he came out for BP.

I also would've had Dickey squeeze when he was up in the fourth. That killer DP felt like the Foxwoods Resort Casino turning point of the game, even more than the Bay strikeout or the Paulino strikeout. Even Dickey striking out there would've been better than what happened. At least then we would've had Reyes up (only the best hitter in the league) with the bases loaded.

Huge crowd on hand at PNC and it was suggested it was the third-highest paid attendance in the park's history, which seems almost inconceivable, given that they've had the Yankees there for interleague play, and an All-Star game. Plus you'd figure the very first game ever there would've been a packed house as well.

Jason Bay got a very nice hand when announced in the lineup and as well when he came to bat for the first time. Strangely, he also got a LOT of boos, and not from the Mets fans there either. (I would estimate the park was ~20-25% Mets fans). I guess this just proves there are idiot fans everywhere.

PNC Park does a nice job of branding, repeatedly referencing themselves as "the best ballpark in America." They are correct. It's not bragging if you can back it up.

Agreed on both points. (Even if the replay suggested that the play at the plate in the 8th would have been VERY close.)

Of course, if Pagan had gone early in the count on Vera (who paid him no mind) and the rookie catcher, whether he could've scored from first would've been moot.

It's funny - when I'm in my usual prom reserved infield seats at home, I think I have a great read on plays from the outfield to the plate. It's a lot harder to read the play from the field level. Still, I think he would've made it. Paul did hit the cutoff man well but there was still the matter of Overbay's throw to the plate which also would've needed to be perfect. With two outs and the bottom of the order coming up...
