Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 the other of the 'big three' Mark Mulder? Think injuries probably keep him out though.edit: guess he's not active. I just assumed he was on the DL somewhere.

The other one is a name we all know and hate but hard to imagine he ranks where he does, definitely a surprise.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Jeff Suppan, are you active anywhere?Chan Ho Park, is that you I spy on the fringes of this question?

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Wow, Jeff Suppan, minor-leaguing it with the Omaha Royals.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Jesus he even looks different, wasn't implying that I would have guessed him either cos I wouldn't have.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 There was a chart in the Sunday NYTimes about team leads for stolen bases (prompted, of course, by the monumental achievement of St. Jeter wresting the MFY record from Rickey - who himself took it from Wee Willie Small Balls). I'm not going to make a big quiz over it but it does fit in with the recent hits and runs kwizzes that have been running here. The upshot is that, because the running game was so popular in the early years of baseball, the reigning team record for four different franchises (Phillies, Reds, Giants & Braves) still dates back to the 19th century, while seven more (Tigers, Cubs, Senators/Twins, Red Sox, Browns/Orioles, ChiSox, Pirates) had their record set prior to 1925. Then, as if to emphasize how the power game took over, NO records were set from 1925-1965. Since '65 only the expansion teams (duh!) plus the Dodgers (Maury Wills - 490), Cardinals (Brock - 888), Athletics (Rickey - 967), Indians (Kenny Lofton - 452), and now the Yanx have had their records set or re-set.The last side-note is that Eric Young first held the Rockies' SB record when he stole a base in their inaugural game, still holds it today with 180, and has only NOT held it for a 16 day period in between when OFer Alex Cole (I have no memory of him) became the only other player in Colorado history to have it.Y'all here of course know that Reyes took the NYM record from Mookie a couple of seasons back leaving his current mark of 348 as a mark for the next guy since we all know that Jose's current leave will be extended by an airport walkway injury which will in turn keep him out of action until he's dealt away at the trading deadline to the Yanx for Francisco Cervelli.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 If you're so fatalistic to believe that Jose is imminently due for an injury, at least add in the extra detail that it will occur days (hours?) after signing him to a seven-year contract.Jose, by the way, is amazing --- slugging .493 despite having only one homer. A gen-u-ine MVP candidate we have here.
