Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 No. I just saw it hanging out there waiting, waiting.... The anticipation was killing me. My money, however, was on "That's not a tongue in his cheek." So I had to hit the ATM on my way to lunch.

Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 i think "calls" is a dyslexic version of "class"... which Posada has none of.

Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 (edited) Jalen Rose on Mike and Mike this morning said the whole Posada thing is none of the fans' business and all should have been handled quietly "in the clubhouse."I was stunned because:A) Mike and Mike (and Jalen) were talking baseball. A guy being paid to speak on the radio about professional sports is telling us that something happening in professional sports is none of our business.I suppose I should not have been stunned about Point A since the Yankees were involved. Had this been an aging star on another team, this would have gotten no mention at all.ESPN Radio sports priority list:1) Football2) Football3) College football4) NFL draft, which practically counts as a separate sport5) Football6) College basketball7) Football8) NBA Playoffs, unless LeBron is involved, then it moves up to 3A9) Pre-season football10) NBA regular season, unless LeBron is involved, then 5A11) Yankees baseball, moved up to 7A if Derek Jeter is involved 12) Golf13) Football when Golic played14) Non-Yankee baseball15) Hockey, the night before a deciding game of the Stanley Cup16) Nathan's hot dog-eating contest.17) Sports played as a publicity stunt by Chad Ochocinco18) Regular season hockey Edited May 17, 2011 by Guest
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 The same Jalen Rose who called Grant Hill an Uncle Tom in a recent documentary? , screw him.

He also was arrested for drunk driving after having wrecked his car on March 11th just two days prior to the airing of his ESPN documentary The Fab Five in which he stated his belief that black athletes, specifically basketball players, that attended Duke University were all "uncle Toms". He subsequently was suspended by ESPN on April 1st for "failing to disclose" his DUI arrest. I guess he was too busy bad mouthing Grant Hill and Duke University. ESPN has since reinstated Rose to his on air duties.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 While his position was unfair bullshit, I have no doubt that that sort of ridiculously over-simplified perspective fueled the Michigan five. And it's good that he aired it. He would have done well to finish it by saying "Of course, we were young and that was really unfair. They were champs and they have reason to be proud of what they've accomplished --- what they're still accomplishing."But the documentary was designed to lionize that team, and I'm sure he fully expected his BS to be eaten up. People --- in sports, on TV, in society --- get so regularly rewarded for acting like perpetual adolescents, they're always suprised to suddenly be criticized for it.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I don't even know who Jalen Rose is, and I'm unsure why ESPN (radio and otherwise) insists on touting it's other hosts/analysts as "HUGE GUESTS" when they do cameos on other shows. Do I really need to hear Steven A Smith on every freaking show all day long? I'm pretty sure they could fire everyone and just play canned intros from one host introducing another host who repeats what he said on his own show days ago. Then they'll have that host go on another show to repeat the opinion from the first host. And we wonder why they can get 6 weeks of 'content' from one sentence from a Tiger Woods or a Bret Favre?

The thing is, I feel like I get the gist of it most days, even with that minimal amount of listening time. I can turn on Michael Kay two times a week and somehow hear the same conversations and arguments. Relatedly, Francesa was doing his ticket giveaway thing today where he asks simple questions of callers and the one with the most right gets the tickets. Simple stuff "What number did Edgardo Alfonzo wear?" "How many games did WS 2000 go?" "Who hit the first WS home run in 2000? It took 11 callers before anyone got the minimum three questions right to qualify. (I can forgive them, goofing up what Number Bobby Valentine wore once cost me $130, but goofing multiple simple questions? it was hilarious.)

So here's my version of a calendar year as seen by national TV/radio sports geeks:August - NFL Training Camps plus daily updates from Brett Favre's front lawnSeptember - NFL Football and the beginning of NCAA footballOctober - NFL Football, NCAA FootballNovember - NFL Football, NCAA FootballDecember - NFL Football + minor Bowl Games no matter how pathetic (because ESPN televises them all)January - NFL football playoffs + BCS Title Bowl gamesFebruary - SUPER BOWL WEEK!!!!!! the biggest geekfest of all. Plus the SB itself and the aftermath. Focus then starts to shift to College hoopsMarch - College Hoops, College Hoops, College HoopsApril - FINAL FOUR!!! ... NFL DRAFT!!!!May - NBA playoffs plus (normally) reports from NFL mini-camps. "optional" work-outs, and NCAA intra-squad spring footballJune - NBA playoffs and draftJuly - VACATION TIME!!!! ... replacement hosts will of course discuss football because camps are almost ready to open and it's never too early to start making predictions
