metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Good newsSantana cleared for throwingAdam RubinJohan Santana has been cleared by Mets doctors to begin a throwing program leading into spring training.Santana underwent surgery in September to repair a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. He is not expected to be available to the Mets until June or July.Santana went 11-9 with a 2.98 ERA in 29 starts last season. He was pulled from his final outing on Sept. 2 at Atlanta as a precaution after five innings because he was experiencing tightness. The team originally diagnosed it as a pectoral strain, but an MRI taken a week later, after the Mets returned to New York, revealed the anterior capsule strain.Should be back in time for the pennant push.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 also good news, its' the 14th and no one's made a "injuries of 2011" thread yet. we're ahead of last year!

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Maybe it's just Sir Salderson managing expectations... and maybe it's him honestly conveying his own.Sandy Alderson acknowledged the Mets need starting rotation insurance, in part because there's no absolute assurance Johan Santana will be ready in April.

I don't think there will be any particular..news.. on that front until early February or whenever it is he actually starts doing things with that shoulder in prep for ST. But it's a good idea to get a 6th and 7th starter anyway. Niese has shown a tendency to be a little achy as well.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Wait...the Mets have Johan Santana?
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 nah, just the ghost of Santana's past. fah la la la la, la lah lah lah.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Lennon from Newsday tweets:"Here's what anyone knows about Santana: Could pitch Opening Day or his career as we know it could be over. Been that way since September."
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Seems like it's been that way since September of 2009.
