I enjoyed it. It's a lot heavier than the commercial campaign made it out to be, but I thought it was well acted and interesting.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty well acted and a skillful use of the postmodern family.

what's it rated?

From IMDB -

Motion Picture Rating (MPAA)
Rated R for strong sexual content, nudity, language and some teen drug and alcohol use.

It's rated L for LESBIANS of course.

Ratings? Do people pay attention to those?

Only when Lesbians are involved..

for instance D.E.B.S. had lesbians, but it was a little more G rated. still entertained me though, as silly as it was.

In all fairness, lesbians aside, the R rating was proper for this film.

I liked it. Well-acted all around.

The title, however, bugged me. The song doesn't show up, it was already the title of another movie (in which the song didn't show up either) and without the song as an anchor the title doesn't really fit.

finally caught up with this on dvd. my wife and i both hated it.

Like SQUID AND THE WHALE (and i didn't), it's a wallow in "dysfunctional family" melodrama, light on plot and heavy on unlikeable characters making bad decisions. sure, the acting is good... with this cast, it would be hard for it not to be. but to what purpose? for another "we always hurt the one we love" slice of bullshit?

whatever, dudes.

I'm not quite as negative here as Vic, although am at least in the same zip code with his 'what's the point?' angle.

The fact that it's an unusual family getting past a crisis (or maybe not) doesn't make it a better flick IMO - particularly when the crisis barely made sense in the first place. Good performances only take it so far.
