Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Three weeks since Luis Castillo's last start. Two since his last appearance.Three weeks for Nickeas also.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Duda batting second is, well, odd.

Manuel needs to win out to have a winning tenure.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Can I just say that I was a bit stunned to see in the Snooze today that the Phillies have 92 wins......then I saw that they have won 10 in a row.....wankers

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Let's face it our job this weekend is merely to delay the clinch, hopefully until after we're out of town.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Last thing I wanna see is the Phils clinching against the Mets.So I know that's what's gonna happen.Shane lead off homer. Shane! SHANEEEEEE!!

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 Does the thought of a PR for Ike cross Jerry's mind?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 Congrats Jerry. 1 for 2 on the pinch runners and it took you 2 pitches into Feliciano's AB to do it but nice job.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 What the fuck was Feliciano swinging at? Too bad it wasn't a pitcher from AAA, those he can hit.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 we are just so sorry.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Well, another loss ... at least it was quick!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 What a wretched, detached, irrelevant second half.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Well put ... wretched irrelevance!!
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 SurfingTheMets: Wright and Reyes ripped Utley pretty good for what they called a "dirty" slide into Tejada.Let's see Gee stick one near Utley's ear tomorrow.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 It wasn't all that dirty imho.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 That explains why they played with such passion and fury down the stretch tonight.

Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I mean so long as the slider, the taker-outer, thehuman-cannonballer is within reach of a bag ... goodclean baseball.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I've seen worse but it was a bit late.Utley's ass didn't hit the ground until he was 2 ft or more past 2B
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Two feet? I'll have to watch the replay again.I thought of it more as a welcome to the bigs slide.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I missed the play. I'm just pushing this baby to page two.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 One of these two teams was playing to win. The other was playing so the game (and season) could be over.Utley slid hard and maybe a little chippily. So somebody get on first tomorrow and slide hard and chippily at him.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Dude was trying to take out Tejada, and with good reason (especially considering the closeness of the game). There was no human tarpaulin action (a la the season-ender for Murphy) and no sliding outside the baseline. This is almost as stupid as their yapping about Reyes,
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 The objection isn't about playing hard or about take-out slides, it's about take-out slides which don't begin until after the runner crosses the bag. Or, put another way, without evasive maneuvers Utley's body hits Tejada close to knee-high.As I said at the time, I've seen worse but it was still a late and borderline dirty slide. And if the post-game yapping makes Utley feel need to bail out early on a potential DP in order to protect his knees tonight then it's all worth it. Or if he takes a pitch in the ribs in the first inning then that's OK too; it's not like he doesn't intentionally stick himself in front of a dozen or so pitches per year anyway.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 I think the slide was late and very aggressive but it wasn't a "get me to the bag on time" slide, it was a take out slide, and it was a good one. Dirty? Not at all. Aggressive? Very. I would not expect this Mets team to know what aggressive play is all about. The best way to answer that, since they didn't address it last night, is not with their mouths, but with their bats tonight.Talk is cheap.
