Gonna watch this game in a bit, or some of it.
What was Perez doing in this game?
He hasn't pitched for what? A month?
And he gets the ball in this game?
We better have been down by 8 or more runs when he got the call.[/quote:ls0bysco]
Sadly not far off.
I'm not sure why they didn't run him out there for a second inning, except maybe they wanted him to leave on a negative.

I'm wondering that, too, since he has pitched some of his best games against Atlanta.
Giving a long stint in this game might have helped him restore his confidence, even if a little.

Somebody help these guys. What was Carter looking for with the bases loaded, two outs and a 2-0 count. Takes a fastball down the middle and the same pitch at 2-1. WTF. .190 with bases loaded and two outs for the entire fucking season. Damn![/quote:wniwn1x4]

Next time someone asks "What does a hitting coach really do?"..well, he can certainly adjust what they look for at the plate...

I imagine they had him taking 2-0. I don't recall him getting the same pitch 2-1. (Checking GameDay, both were 92-MPH fastballs --- the first belt high, the second just above the knees, so I guess, yeah, he should have been hacking.)

It's worth repeating that Carter had had 128 plate appearances this season prior to that one, but none against a lefthander.

I'd like to thank Howie and Wayne for making it as depressing as any loss of the year. Obsessing over eighth-inning guys, beating the hell out of Ollie, singing refrains of praise to Francoeur --- it's like Jerry had brainwashed them.

Those guys have watched every pitch of every Mets game this year.
That can drive anybody more than a little nuts.
I have rachmanus* for them.
I'd allow them to plead temporary insanity and sentence them to five months of probation, from this October through next February.

Yabbut, this isn't Howie and Wayne "snapping;" it's the logical endpoint to a seasonlong arc of specious logic and curiously-chosen defended causes. They've had a bad year overall.

Well, Howie's had a bad year. Wayne, one could presume, just had a regular Wayne year.

I mean, don't lament the eighth-inning failures and such. Look to the issues that underlie them, or else you're just perpetuating them.

And the piling on with Perez. Goodness gracious. We know Perez made a bad choice, but what about Minaya and Manuel responding with apparently conflicting choices?

It's like some crappy sports movie where an evil coach is trying to harass his whipping boy into quitting the team and siccing his goons on them. As the player slowly gets up the coach spits out something like, "You want more? Come back tomorrow."
