The main difference is that he's walking more in the big leagues. That could come back to bite him in the ass as quickly a three-run homer or two, but seince he doesn't give up too many of those, a few walks has been a luxury he's ben able to afford so far.

That one knuckler that doesn't knuckle to someone that's ready for it would result in home runs that would score multiple runs. He's done very well at not giving those up though to the point that I'm not worried anymore. I don't even get that worried when he lets a couple of runners on. I wonder how much that two speeds of knuckling help. Even if a guys' waiting for one that doesn't knuckle to put a good swing on, he could still be fooled.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 RAD looks lie he could command that knuckler for the next 10 years.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Unfortunately, it's the nature of every pitcher to lose control occasionally and give up walks, hits and home runs.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 He's had two-- maybe two-and-a-half-- games where the control's been off.Last night was one of them. The other one was a no-decision, too. Lucky, yes (79.3% strand rate, compared to the league average 72), but he does seem to know how to tightrope-walk, and how to put things in the hands of the higher power of team defense when things get rough.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Cohen made a good point the other night -- Dickey seems to be able to drop that knuckler in for called strikes, the way a 12-6 curve guy like Zito can/could do. Unlike a lot of other knuckleballers, like Wakefield, who look for K's and poorly hit balls on pitches out of the zone.Whatever he's doing, it makes me moist and I hope he can sustain it.
Guest Vince Coleman Firecracker Guests Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I believe in R.A. Dickey. He seems like a legit middle-of-the-rotation guy, at least. I don't know why I'm so optimistic, though. Maybe I'm rooting for him the way I rooted for players when I was a kid and I'm letting emotion cloud my judgement, but I really believe in him.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Well, Dickey has exhiibtited better control than Rodriguez also.
