I did, in my own way.
I've said here many times how I turned my back on the Mets til about the time Mookie came up, because of that trade.
So publicly, in case Met management were monitoring my movements, I denounced the team and held voodoo rituals
in respect to Charles Payson and Grant.

Mr. Payson gave the reigns to Lorinda, who gave them to Grant.
Many blame Ms. de Roulet, but I considered her just a middlewoman.

Anyways, I still followed the Mets from a distance (moved from NYC in '75) secretly with all my heart
and did root for these guys. Hendu and Flynn to a large extent.

I saw myself in Flynn, the kind of player I figured
I'd be if I ever made it to the bigs.
All glove, and maybe more bat than Pete.
And we kinda looked alike.
