Me too! She sounds pretty good. I hope she does well.

I always liked Mackey.

She's well on her way to mastering that tambourine.

Decent, indeed.

Though I'm just glad she didn't have to stop playing in the intro, then start again, then stop, then start again.

Somewhere, among my souveniers, I have a VHS tape of Kiner's Korner, from July of 1990 or 1991. We had been visiting with friends and I taped the game and Kiner's Korner, intending to come home and watch it.

Mackey was my favorite; I just adored him. He had several extra base hits that day and was on Kiner's Korner, much to my late night delight.

Anyway, it was Family Day for the players and they showed a shot of Mrs. Sasser, Lynn, along with their little ones, Chris and Madison. Both were just little, maybe 2 and 3 years old. Lynn was stroking Madison's hair, and Madison was drinking a Coke through a straw. I haven't watched that tape in a long long time, but I remember it so well.
A summer Sunday afternoon many many years ago.

Anyway, to see Madison now as a young lady of 19 or 20 launching a hopeful musical career is pretty neat for me, plus I'm so happy to see that she seems to be a decent and respectable young woman, a nice change of pace these days.

Shake that tambourine, girl!

:) I am also glad that he has gotten over his problem, and that he has a career that we can kinda keep track of, as a college coach!

When my sister in laws daughter was born, we saw and met Mackey at the hospital, there for his own daughter's birth. Years later I met him and reminded him. He remembered and said it was his daughter Madison. Glad to see she's doing well.

Just kidding, moments like the above are precious and often once in a lifetime

a little more recent article about the same thing:
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/2009/06/20/2009-06-20_former_mets_catcher_mackey_sasser.html

one extra note at the end:

Recently, Sasser has begun thinking about getting back into pro ball. He dreams of perhaps one day being the Mets' roving catching instructor. "I think I could help kids get to the majors," he says. If he never gets back to pro ball, that's OK, too.
