Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Up gets a best picture nomination! Is it the first animated feature to get that nomination? (I'm thinking it's not. I seem to think that The Lion King was nominated. Or maybe Beauty and the Beast.)I'm pretty sure that it would be the first to win, if that were to happen.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Beauty and the Beast was also nominated. With the inflation of Best Picture noms from 5 to 10 I think really only the five that got director nominations would have gotten nominated in past years and that those are the only ones that have a chance. The others get to put it on the DVD boxes though.

On the second, too-- BatB lost to The Silence of the Lambs.Oddly enough, Avatar and District 9 represent only the 3rd and 4th science-fiction movies-- if you count E.T.-- to get BP nods EVER; either would be the first to win. (By comparison, 5 Vietnam movies have been nominated, with 2-- Platoon and The Deer Hunter-- winning. Put another way: before this year, as many X-rated films as sci-fi films had been nominated for Oscars, and more disaster movies-- 3, if you don't count Love Story.)

RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I see nearly all my films on DVD, so I'm behind on the list. However, I think Inglorious Basterds is the best film of those I've seen, and a fine file overall. And if Christoph Waltz doesn't win Best Supporting Actor, the Oscars are fixed.
