Good work.

Wait, did I say good? Why, next to what you've done, good is crap. This is great work.

We're approaching $49,000,000 --- which kind of throws all the data of this study into question.

Tim Redding first pitched for the Mets on May 18th, missing the first 37 games of the season. With a contract of $2.25 million, the Mets were shorted $513,888.85 worth of Tim's services.

We're at $50,537,048.85. A lot of cheese. Martinez, Niese, Pagan, and Sheffield remain.

I'm wondering if some of the disparity can be explained by disabled days not spent on the actual DL. I know I've been looking at long stretches of missed days; not sure if there's a site that tracks days spent on the official DL by player.

Niese missed 51 games and had a $400,000 salary = $125,925.93

Pagan missed 36 games and had a $575,000 salary = $127,777.78

Redding missed 37 games and had a $2,250,000 salary = $513,888.89

Sheffield missed 15 games and had a $400,000* salary = $37,037.04

*Mets were only paying $400,000...the balance of the $14,000,000 was paid by Detroit. (15 games would have cost us $1,296,296.30 on $14 Mil)

Well, by our count (as unscientific as it may be), I'm only showing 1298 games lost to injury, while BP is showing "days lost" at 1451. So maybe they're counting off-days as well.

Still, I'm not sure how our dollar amount exceeded theirs with our days coming in lower.

I would guess that most of the guys who would be part of the "disabled but not DL'd" group would be the higher salaried guys, like Delgado and Reyes, so it's possible that we could have less days missed but higher money lost. Not sure how to explain the huge difference in games missed, though.

Wow, I've been back and forth across the internet and can't find Ramon Martinez's salary --- obviously a state secret. Still, great work by everybody and a nice two-inning save by Monk. If we ever find out the Martinez munny, it threatens to put the whole shebang at over $51,000,000

For accounting purposes the ML season is divided into 182 (I think that's the number) [u:24bidpmj]days[/u:24bidpmj], not games - and ML service time, split contracts, etc are figured on that sked. That original chart could be using the same theory.
So a guy who misses 13 games via the 15-day DL minimum is probably seen as costing the team 15/182 of the season not 13/162. Not a lot of difference, but between guys called up in mid-season and others with multiple DL stints it probably explains a lot of the discrepancy.
