Twins draw first blood w/2 outs in the top of the 3rd.

I was just coming on here to wonder how it's taken them a full hour to go through 2-1/2 innings of a scoreless game

And now they score again on a Jorge Posada PB. Maybe we're beginning to see why Burnett wants him outta there for game 2

What a come down for Ron Darling to work with a MORON like Chip Carey after working with Gary Cohen.

Jeter goes 2R HR -- tie game in bottom 3

I don't know anything about this Minny pitcher - Brian Duensing, a 26 y/o rookie who has made 9 ML starts

The listener feels the same way.

Not a good start to this series. Twins need to take game 2 on Friday to have much hope.

Twinks were in trouble when Maurer whiffed with a man on 3rd, 1 out in the 1st.

Didn't help that they gave away their lead first chance they got.

What we need today is for Gay Jay to spit the bit, and it's off to Heftyland with a good shot.

Just went to newsday.com and was greeted with this.....

Just a usual postseason game for Jeter: perfect

What we need is for the Twins to get a good night's sleep.

They've been in a playoff race down to the wired and one game past the wire, with a one day turnaround, while all the Yanks have had to worry about was setting their rotation and keeping guys' legs fresh. I'm sure Mauer's whiff and Jeter's homer will add dubious fodder to dubious MVP debates, but I'm hoping Mauer shows his true colors against Nipple Ring Burnett.

I'd like nothing more than seeing Burnett getting his lunch handed to him tonight , and with all the unnecessary pressure brought in to focus through the benching of Posada I expect him to get hammered.

Posted

Heard a few minutes of Michael Kay yesterday who insisted that Burnett was NOT the one requesting that he not pitch to Posada - essentially throwing the decision all on Girardi. Well of course it's always the manager's decision but I like how Kay absolves Burnett of even bringing up the topic while Francesa's version has him virtually marching into the manager's office and saying, 'I can't throw to this big-eared oaf'.

So tonight it's Yanx/Twins at 6:07 and Sox/Angels at 9:37 -- which leads to the question:
What inning in the 1st game in when it becomes 1st pitch time for game 2? ... because you KNOW there's no way a MFY post-season game will get done in under 3-1/2 hours.

Well, you've got ceremonial introductions, including the drawing out of Jeter's name, the extended remiix of God Bless Irish-America, the network hosannahs to the new stadium, and sidebar stories about the cast of Fox's new hit sitcom Cancel Me Please, I'm on FOX. I'll say fourth inning.

I like when Jeter doesn't get his way.
I don't like when another ump makes up for it.

At least that's the way I see things sometimes.

Carlos Gomez - early game baserunning dork - makes up for things by starting a 2-out 8th inning rally that has put the Twins up by 2.

Put the pads back on Jorge ... the entitlement era is ovah!

Guerrier does his job.

If Nathan can't do his-- admittedly, not the simplest of tasks-- then the Twins don't deserve this.

Strike zone has mysteriously evaporated.

Hate to say it but I had no faith in Nathan at all.
The next time I see him retire the Yanx in a save situation will be the first.

Gardener in to pinch-run ... who catches if the game continues?
I guess they kept that Cervelli guy on their roster for this round.

Double erased for the Twins, that wasn't even friggin' close.

How is it that these extra umpires never get the freakin' call right?@?@?#?$?!?

Dude couldn't see Jeffrey Maier's arm from 10 feet away and now this dork screws up a ball that was fair TWICE (hit glove and hit 6 inches or more inside the line)

Well that sucked royally.

Fucking umpire....

Over the 318 mark ... ouch.

Twinks left those bases loaded, ya knew it was over.

Not scoring like that in extras when you're the road team is so mentally deflating.
Once you go out you know that in order to win you have to: hold them scoreless, score yourself next time, and then hold them again - and there's only so many times you can pull that off when facing that team.

Of course it would be nice if the umps didn't screw it up too. Twins wound up with four straight "hits" in top 11 and didn't score.

"Over the 318 mark"

Actually it wasn't even over. Hit the top of the fence at its shortest point and bounced over.

This game proves once again how the MLB replay rule is a joke. OK, review for home runs that are questionable, fine. But how many times do we have to see blown calls that would obviously be overturned? This play, the play in the WS last year when one of the Rays (Baldelli?) was called out at 3rd on a dreadful call, Matt Holliday sliding and never touching home, Inge hit by the pitch. These all happened in the last three seasons. I don't give a %$*& if the umps don't like it...I don't like having to look at dopes like CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez make a joke of my favorite sport.

Oh, and while I'm here: As Buck Showalter just pointed out, the ball not only hit fair, it hit the left fielder's glove. So for both reasons it was a fair ball.

And Carlos Gomez: happy trails my friend. So glad you no longer wear my team's uniform.
