Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Ricky Otero is getting an inordinate amount of hits on the UMDB over the last few days.I did some Googling, and found some articles in Spanish. In English, the best I could do was this, from his Wikipedia page:Ricardo Otero (April 15, 1972 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico), is a retired Major League Baseball player who played outfielder from 1995-1997. He would play for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. ***UPDATE*** Ricardo Otero was found in Cancun Mexico in July 2009 living under a bridge after been dragged to the underworld by the alcohol and drug abuse. He was asking for money in the streets and living as bum begging for food. He loss his money and paperwork because of the drug and alcohol addiction. A men named Luis Portillo recognized Ricky no matter he was all burned by the sun and in deplorable conditions. He contacted the retire baseball players Ricardo Rondon and Benigno Ayala who were able to retrieve Otero to New York for rehab. **www.elnuevodia.com/eldramaderickyotero-611089.html **

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Pretty poetic translation:Ricky any Hillock time was a player of Large Leagues. But the puerto rican baseball player lives now a situation dramatics after to have lived large histories with important teams of the LMB. Now with 37 years of age, the boricua lives like indigent in the streets of the heavenly Mexican port of Cancun, due to its addictions to the alcohol and the drugs. This problem brought him more complications when itself enrol with the Langosteros of Cancun. "My addiction they are cositas that to any ballplayer they happen, we are exposed to that and more when find you completely alone in a country", indicated the ballplayer to an American newspaper. "My situation in truth that is seen very sad and shameful". Hillock dressed the flannels of the Mets of new York and of the Filis of Philadelphia from 1995 to 1997, later arrived at the picture langostero from the 2000 to the 2005. The former gardener declared that he entered a state of nostalgia and sadness to which never could conquer, the only exit that found was in the drugs and the alcohol. "Do not I know in what moment happened all this, finished with my career, the nostalgia trapped me, drank excessively and later no longer I knew more. He has been very difficult all this time", he confessed the boricua. Ricky Hillock came average in I bat. 256 in 189 parties in older Leagues. The luck of the puerto Rican would be able to change after the Association of Ballplayers of Large Leagues offered a rehabilitation for its addictions, besides that by to have played in the LMB gives right to charge monthly 2 thousand 500 dollars from the 45 years. "Already I need to be in the airport and to get onto the plane to initiate this change of life", concluded Ricky Hillock. Get straight, Ricky. And stay out of Mexican rehab clinics for the time being.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I know its a bad translation, but I can't imagine that Otero ever played in a "large" League.I saw a Binhmanton game in which Otero, and Q. Veras all played . I was sitting in field level seats and I had to look down to see them. They were so short they were dimensionally challenged.Too bad to hear about him this way.Later
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I'm hoping for the best for him, like I do with anyone who dressed the flannels of the Mets.
