Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Tim Redding has had 22 appearances this year. Of his 9 starts, 3 were acceptable and none as good as his first of the year (6 IP, 2 ER vs. LAD, game score 60). The Mets lost 6 of his 9 starts and had no shot in 4 of them in which Redding put them behind by 5 or more runs. This putrid performance got him reassigned to the bullpen. In 13 relief appearances, he's given up runs in all but 5 of them and has been "good" in only 2 of them. Opponents are slugging .541 off him.Not that Redding was ever especially good but this year as compared to career averages his walk rate is up, strikeouts are down, Whip is up, HR rate is up, ERA is way up (65 ERA+).And there's a chance he'll be starting vs. Pedro on Sunday.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Redding would have helped more if he had gotten injured......joking aside disaster is the word for him
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 He's currently in the lead to be the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month for August. Not sure how that's happened. If Tim Redding returns to the Mets in 2010, it will probably be a sign of a very bad offseason by the club.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I'm just glad this is a disaster I already knew about. I thought a bus had crashed or something.

His awfulness -- along with Schneider's -- might be the story of the Mets' difficulty to contend this year were it not for a hundred other disasters. He's been one of the worst offseason additions the Mets have made in years, and he's getting very little credit for it.Edgy DC Aug 20 2009 09:22 AMYabbut, if a dozen other injuries hadn't hap'd, Redding would be released or in Buffalo. By now, I imagine, they're thinking "What's the use? What's the use?" a la Big Al, and letting him take beatings for the the rest of the staff.MFS62 Aug 20 2009 09:42 AMThis entire year has been a disaster of Biblical proportions.Injuries have been the eleventh plague. And the DL has been the journal listing the victims.LaterLeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 20 2009 09:57 AM="Edgy DC":1rnkm16z]I'm just glad this is a disaster I already knew about.
