RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I actually think Hughes's best work were the short stories he wrote for the National Lampoon before he went to Hollywood, though Ferris Buehler is a very good film. But things liked "Vacation '58" (the basis for National Lampoon's Vacation), "Boxed In," The Lampoon's Sunday Newspaper Parody, and "My Penis."
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I re-watched Breakfast Club over the weekend for the first time in years and it's aged pretty poorly, especially wrt its attitudes on "fags" and what at the time was considered at worst harmless sexism looks aggressively inappropriate today. The idea of teens from warring social circles thrust together of course will last as long as there are teens.Movie was eh.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Very cartoonishly directed. This is true of 16 Candles, but since this one has a lot more pathos at the center of it, it feels more inappropriate. And since he both wrote and directed it, it's kinda strange that the script and the direction seem to have a different tone.
