G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 SNY showing Buffalo vs. Lehigh Valley this afternoon (and repeating it tonight and tomorrow during the day). What a depressing sight. A fog sits over Coca-Cola Field. There are about 21 people there and both teams are filled with ex-Mets, including David Newhan and Miguel Cairo for the Ironpigs and, well, nearly everybody for the Bisons. The announcers are selling the shortstopping abilities of Argenis Reyes hard, though Ken Oberkfell in mid-game chat mentioned he doesn't really have the arm for SS on the big league level. Figueroa's pitching, Cancel's catching, other team's rejects including Cory Sullivan, Mike Lamb and Wily Mo Pena are making the scene.Hard to believe this is technically the JV for the red-hot Mets-Phillies rivalry.[i do like the announcers saying "The Pigs are leading 2-0," as if making a judgment on their characters.]On the other hand, it's live baseball in the middle of a Thursday and it is distracting to those of us who are prone to that sort of thing.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Triple A has become a warehouse for has-beens and going-nowhere players. Double A seems to be where it's at. It wasn't always that way, but for at least a decade or more, real prospects rarely stay for long at AAA.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I think the tradition goes back further than we generally acknowledge.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 If I'm an owner I'd much rather have the AA team.I think I read recently where the Bisons ownership aren't too pleased with the Mets , didn't they lose 11 games in a row at one point.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 If I'm an owner, I have nothing to do with affiliation. Indy ball is where it's at.

You don't have successful players plucked from your roster because somebody else in a bigger town had a cab accident.Ceetar May 30 2009 02:05 PMMy biggest regret of my college days were not going to a Bisons game. As odd as it seems now, baseball just wasn't at the top of my priority lists, and I didn't end up making baseball friends to watch with. Now i'm regretting not seeing the Bisons, the Batavia..whatever they ares, and the Rochester team. Not to mention the Blue Jays and sorta kinda close Indians.I did walk around the park once in the winter. It looked like an okay place to watch a game. It's real real close to the Erie Canal. well, not really. close to lake Erie pre-canal. Pretty there though.
